Newness has nothing to do with it.

Nobody gets on Zilal's case because, quite frankly, she's very conservative in her posting habits. Check her number of posts compared to most of the "entrenched oldbie" community... it's very, very low. Check out the average length of her post... again, very, very low. Zilal's posts slide by without questioning because she refrains from posting anything questionable. Anyone else who wants the same treatment she gets only has to follow her example.

Spuzzum posts more often, and being a person of a humorous bent, often goes further out on a limb than Zilal does, which means he takes more falls than she does. Still and all, he's a heck of a nice guy, and refrains from joshing with anyone unless he's pretty sure he knows how it will be received.

I could name a few names that have been around here pretty long, who still got shot down every time they open their mouths... but with the recent focus on positivity, I won't. Newness or oldness has nothing to do with it. If you don't want your posts to be questioned, don't post anything questionable. If you want your questions to be respected, ask respectable questions.

Believe it or not, I really do talk that way. Yes, Virginia, there is a person with more than a 500-word vocabulary.

As do I... I never refer to a dictionary unless I am unclear as to what the precise meaning of a word is. For example, "hypocrite". As a rhetoric question, I'll pose one further argument, though... If I'm a hypocrite, what exactly am I doing that is hypocritic? Being unsure of the definition of a word isn't hypocritic if you admit it openly. It's another thing to pretend that I know the meaning of "cogent" and use it to demonstrate linguistic superiority. I was right when it came to what I thought it meant, so there's nothing wrong with using it.

"Cogent" isn't quite in my everyday language yet, though.

Not in my everyday vernacular either -- but I find convenient places to stick uncommon words when I'm writing anything, simply because you can't convey images through speech like you can through literature. =)

(One word I've always been confused about was "exonerate". It has every form of bad sound -- "ex", and "ate", and "er"... (as in "exterminate" or... uh... I'll keep the next word that came to mind in private).

Doesn't "exonerating" something sound like a bad thing to you? I always thought it was, until I confused the heck out of my English teacher. =))

I figured it was related to "onerous" (which I only vaguely knew to mean something negative), so I looked it up. Indeed, both words are related through "oner" or "onus", meaning "burden". So something onerous is burdensome, and to exonerate is to unburden.

For those of you that had a problem with my grammer & puctuation all i can say is "I don't give a F**k".

For the following reasons:
  • I am not writing a damn essay for you.
  • That message took 30 secs to write and it was not double checked.

I dont know whether Geo was refering to me using elaborate(not a quote from what he said) words. To be honest if you knew me Geo you would know that my manner of speach is differnet from the way in which i write. Also with knowing 5 languages its a bit confusing sometimes.

Going against my better judgement, I'll reply to this, but I'll try to keep a good tone about it.

Okay first of all you are hypocryts. You first tell me to not "pollute" the forum with something that doesn't need to be said because it doesn't mean anything.

No. What Leftley and I were telling you was that pointing out grammatical errors without just cause isn't a very friendly thing to do. I can point out every single error of yours, but I won't... not because I don't want to, but because it isn't a very nice thing to subject one to, unless you know him or her amicably and they understand that you're just poking fun.

Then Leftley posts something, which is obviously going to make me post something back, therefore he is "helping" me with the pollution process.

Leftley is well-known for his ability to really annoy people. It was harmless fun on his part, it seems. =)

My part was more or less an admonishment along the lines of "stop pointing out peoples' mistakes".

Then Zilal posted something about Spuzzum using the word "cogent". I don't know about you but acting suprised about somone using that word has less to do with anything than what I was saying. THEN Spuzzum writes back telling us he wasn't sure if he knew what it meant. WHO CARES?! I mean I'm proud of you for knowing such a big word and all.

Zilal was poking fun at me, not pointing out errors. And besides, "cogent" isn't a big word... it's six letters. It just isn't commonly used. =P

Super16 made a stupid comment about the previous post and how he had to "decode" it because of the bad grammar and puncuation. So I noticed he had left out a period at the end of his statment, so I decided to say something to him about how he had messed up.

If there's one thing I normally do, it's address people in general. I never addressed you personally. Notice that I used the word "people", never "Mob".

I was referring to both Super16 and you when I made that statement. Pointless arguments are just that -- pointless. This argument that I'm doing right now is defending my position and trying to reaffirm to you that I meant no wrong, but rather meant to halt all wrongs.

So Leftley if you want to get on my case about saying something that doesn't need to be said(in your opinion)why don't you say something to Zilal and Spuzzum? Can they do no wrong?

Leftley gets on my case all the time. Zilal isn't around often enough for him to bug her. =)
I have heard by calling it a parody you can get away with it?

To be a parody it actually has to be a parody. That is, you must mock the original for the sake of mockery, or in some other way be twisting it considerably for humor. To that end, it's probably easier to parody the genre than the show. Or for that matter, one could always parody the ripe medium of existing DBZ games. Simply making a game and calling it a parody does not a parody make.

Your grasp of legal doctrine seems to be pretty thin, and limited to looking for cheap ways to "get away with it". I strongly suggest that if you have an interest in the subject of copyright law, you do some research on it.* In the meantime, offering people advice is something that should only be done by people who've done their homework.

I think the people who aren't fans of DBZ would have an easier time making a mockery of it :o)

I think DBZ makes a pretty good mockery standing on its own.

I would've gotten away with DBZ:U, if it wasn't for those pesky kids...

Only if they make money from it it is illegall. End of story. Like on BYOND it is illegel of you make a DBZ game and it cost dimes in any way. ect...

Yes, end of story... but in this case, the story is a fairy tale. Using someone else's characters without their permission is just like using their car without permission... just because you don't try to sell it doesn't mean you're not stealing.

If you think you know otherwise, please show me where you got your information.

Leftley only bugs me in games, because he doesn't let me win even when I am so obviously outmatched there's no need to go through with killing me!
