Im bored, so I wanna know, on a scale from 1 to 10, how good you think some coders are...

Me - 4 :P

Nadrew - 8 or 9
Sariat - 5 or 6

Frank comparison of people's qualities is always a guilty pleasure for me... or it would be, if I let myself participate. I guess it's more of a guilty hangup.

But even if it didn't have a sort of perversity to it, I don't think I could join in this one, because I just don't know. The finished product gives some clue, but not enough for me. If I know I can code everything I see in BYOND, to make it look and act just like the original game... it's just a matter of how... then I prove that the final product isn't a very useful measure of coding skill. Unfortunately others' code always looks like Greek to me if it's over 5 lines, so I couldn't judge by inspecting the code either.

What a cop-out!

I don't think anyone can look at others' code without getting a headache.

Well written code, well documented code, I can handle. I get the worst headaches from newbie code, especially when they can't even tell you clearly what they want it to do!

And no, I'm not going to rate programmers. There are far too many elements involved to sum it up in a single rating. Code efficiency, ease of use, time involved producing the code, look of the finished product, and more. Only a few of those can we see.

It's like rating a girl a 10 based on a picture you see of her, then finding out she is a completely obnoxious pain who can't spell her own name.

I agree. But even when it's organized it still takes you a bit to understand how everything pieces together.

Ditto.
