Then I'd tell everybody that since Bedwyr the Bold cheated, nobody gets to be King of England. There, Sir Bedwyr, you've ruined it for everyone. Are you happy now?

er, but what if at that same time, the king of England was there and saw the coin?
King's/Lord's Quarters - stone-walled room, typically adorned by a massive bed, elaborate candle fixtures on the walls, tapestry after tapestry, barred stained glass windows, a solid oak door, and a secret escape passage -- contains a door to the Queen/Lady's quarters and a door to the servant quarters

Queen's/Lady's Quarters - similar to the King/Lord's quarters, though slightly less elaborate, but no less remarkable and expensive -- contains a door leading to the King's quarters and a door leading to the servants' quarters

Servant Quarters - wooden walls, torch sconces, plain wooden beds, and straw mats. Contains a desk

Guest Quarters - elaborate stone room lined with paintings, tapestries, symbols of the Lord's wealth and might (ornamental swords, jewel-encrusted fixtures, etc.).

Barracks - wooden-lined walls, weapons rack, several plain wooden cots filled with down and covered by cloth, individual strongboxes for each cot, a table with 8 chairs, a deck of playing cards

Guard Stations (several) - equipped with a weapons rack, piecemeal suits of armour (rather than standing like a statue), ladder leading up to the parapets, and arrow slits from which to fire out into the surrounding countryside

Throne Room - three thrones -- an elaborate solid gold throne with a down-filled seat placed in the immediate centre of the rear wall on top of a dias (for the King/Lord); a shorter, mixed gold/silver throne to the right of it, placed on a lower dias (for the Queen/Lady); and a still shorter mixed gold and wooden throne to the left, placed on the floor itself (for the Guest, Chief Minister, or Heir/Heiress to the Throne)

Dining Room - lengthy wooden tables covered in expensive tablecloth with dozens of padded wooden chairs; only guests and VIPs are served here -- servants eat within their own quarters, guards and resident garrisons eat within the mess hall. The King/Lord's, Queen/Lady's, and Heir/Heiress' seats are all tall wooden chairs with some gold and silver bracing and lining -- the Master, Mistress, and Heir all have a table to themselves, with the other tables attached to either end in a "U" formation, with the Master's table as the base of the U.

Kitchen - Contains an oven for baking, a grinding wheel for making flour, bags of wheat, a roasting pit, a dumb waiter (i.e. a manual elevator) and ample table space. The dumb waiter is large enough to carry a whole shank of meat from the stockroom below.

Maids' Chambers (if applicable) - contains the ladies-in-waiting for the Heir

Nursery - room in which the children of the Master and Mistress, servants, and families are cared for. Smells slightly.

Captain's Quarters - room in which the captain of the guard is situated behind a large wooden desk, a plain wooden seat with padded cushion, and several books on shelves upon the rear walls.

Training Room - long basement chamber containing training dummies, practice weapons, joust ranges, and armour.

Treasury - contains all of the Master's and Mistress' treasures. Guarded by a solid wooden door (the only entry and exit), a portcullis, and a standing guard of no less than two troops at any time.

Diplomacy Room - room in which negotiations and affairs of state are handled -- like guest quarters, they are lined with symbols of strength, stability, and trustworthiness.

Storeroom - contains all of the keep's war supplies and emergency supplies -- torches, catapult ammunition, oil, lanterns, swords, shields, armour, arrows, bows, ballista missiles, etc.

Granary - grain storage, contains enough wheat (in sacks) to bake enough bread for several months

Stockroom - contains all of the meats, vegetables, alcohol, cheeses, and water for the castle. Situated beneath the kitchen for transport of foodstuffs upward through the dumb waiter, though access to it is easy enough by going downstairs and walking through the halls

Parapets - on all four corners of the keep, on the tops of the towers, are situated ballistae (when in peacetime, they are loaded but not cocked). In the centre of the keep, on top of the middle tower, is situated a catapult -- uncocked until enemies show themselves. A supply of 5 ballista missiles is resting nearby on each tower, and the catapult contains 4 standard boulders in addition to 2 coal blocks (to be set alight then flung at attackers)

Dungeon - a small dungeon, containing about five individual cells, a single guard station, and an "interrogation chamber"

Library - well-stocked with tomes, ranging from science and paranormal, to affairs of state, to religious texts, to simple entertaining works of fantasy, humour, etc.

Docks - situated in the basement, where the water enters the back of the keep in a square man-made channel from the surrounding lake (which, presumably, has a river draining from it). Guarded by an iron portcullis that drops into the channel to the very bottom. Contains barrels of fresh water, several river-worthy dinghys, wooden planks and tar (for boat repairs), and nets, lines, and hooks for fishing.

Thank you, well i figured thats what you were wanting. This might have been a better question for a different board. Maybe.
I would turn the keep into a playboy mansion and whoard whores.

Nothing like BYOND forums if you want perverted responces. :o/

To be honest, I find the "perverted" ideas to hold the most truth for me. I'm from the 21st century. I need my sex and violence.

If I get sent into a medieval world, I should feel justified as an underdog. However, this has been taken away from me by making me more rich than most people and giving me shelter. There is no reason to fight except to protect some material objects I got by chance. Conquering neighboring villages outside of the vast forest does not intrigue me.

What good is being rich if I can't buy modern toys? Those craftsmen are not going to build me a computer which can run anything of the level I'm remotely used to. There is no tv to entertain me. (Plays are nice, but do not count. I need to be able to do other tasks at the same time without interrupting the show.) There is no internet to download taboo materials from. Rugs and shiney rocks don't cut it.

The only interesting things would come from interacting with people. I'm not about to kill for my pleasure. Send in the babes. I've been raised in a more strict society than most of those primatives. A little T&A is not going to upset anyone. Assuming my herd of unicorns doesn't get in the way, a little nookie won't hurt either.

I totally agree... a little nookie never hurt anyone. Unless you had aids then I guess it hurt the other person... Or if it was your parents and you walked in on them... that's pretty trometizing :) (notice I can't spell)

Ugh, people defending the perverted stuff, that's even sadder. Oh well, we've already figured that people here have different moral standards than I do, so I won't bother to argue against you being right.

Did I mention that, in this medieval world, you're also ridiculously wealthy and in charge of skilled craftsmen who can build just about anything you could reasonably want?

So, what are you going to do with all those rooms?

I would buy a large piece of land surrounding the keep as well, and make an exact copy of the game "Guild of Thieves" (http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/sterling/170/ms/ mscrolls3.html). Such atmosphere will never be created again in a computer game.

A keep, for those of you who don't know, is a miniature castle (basically). "A stronghold, or the innermost fortified part of a castle." But, for this question, we'll pretend it's a miniature castle.

Now, suppose you got zapped back into a medieval world with a vast forest, and in the middle of that forest is a keep. And on top of that, it's all yours! The keep has quite a few rooms, around 30. The question is, what are you going to put in all of these rooms?

As soon as Neverwinter Nights comes out this summer I shall model and build a 3D Keep and castle and place it in a medieval world, and DM the game. Soon... its coming... D&D 3rd edition Core rules set in the world of Forgotten Realms, and a Game Editor that lets you both create your own maps and DM your own games....

Yes, yes I did. =P

Maybe I'll help Foomer qualify it. Rather than being sent back in time, stick yourselves into roleplaying mode and play out the roles of Lords or Ladies that own keeps. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom, now you have no excuse to recommend buxom women (or buff men), modern "necessities", etc.

Besides, men and women don't even fall into the furnishing category... he wants room details, not a story or a Playboy-esque fantasy world. =P

Bah, 3rd Edition? D&D gained rules changes and corrections as it progressed from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, but it lost a lot of substance.

AD&D 1st Edition, now there's a game. =)

Of course, I think that the age of board-game roleplaying is almost extinct -- everyone's aiming for console or computer MUDs now... myself included.
