Americans like baseball and football (baseball is their national sport). I.e. pigskin tackle football (not soccer). Canadians like hockey (though for some odd reason in hell, lacrosse is our national sport). That's why interest from the North American department is generally slim. You'll probably have a Mexican crowd, though. ;-) |
Because the Super Bowl has better commercials.
Of course, I didn't care about the Super Bowl, either. |

Football season is over, and it won't be back till fall. Soccer is not football, nor should it be called that. Why? Because it has two names, one of which is ambiguous because it conflicts with the vastly superior sport that only goes by one name. I wouldn't say there's so much a lack of enthusiasm as a mix of varying disdain shot through with a small amount of tepid enthusiasm. Soccer is a low-scoring sport. The concept of possession in the game is a joke, since the ball bounces about almost at random between teams. Even highly skilled professional players have almost no apparent control over where the freaking thing goes, only a very good ability to get to it in time to kick it away. When you consider that Americans have two excellent sports, plus basketball (which goes on year-round) and hockey (which is pretty good if you follow it), soccer doesn't have a prayer. If we're ever gonna get a field sport besides football off the ground here, I'd vote we went for lacrosse; but that's more of a northeastern thing. Lummox JR |

Because America doesn't suck, and Canada mostly doesn't suck. American Football is no way superior to Football(soccer or what ever you call it) That's perfectly true... if you ignore the fact that it's a completely different sport, uses more players, has massive amounts of strategy, long sustained drives, big plays, higher scores, cheerleaders, R, R, R! If you got a WORLD opinion you would see that Football has over a billion fans and American football has a few hundred million. The majority of the world lives under dictatorial rule. Probably about half think women have a status little better (in some cases worse) than animals. A significant portion of the planet has no education to speak of and completely alien tastes. In other words, just because there's a lot of them doesn't mean I should share their opinion. There are lots of boy band fans all over the world, too. Football may have only a few hundred million fans vs. soccer, but we're smarter, richer, socially mobile, and we invented McDonald's. American culture, even the dregs, is celebrated all over the globe. We export Cool. So if someone else has a sport with two names, they should darn well use the one we're not using. Lummox JR |

Soccer has been called "futbol" (<font color =black> I didnt feel like finding the code for the accent mark :P</font color =black>) before American Football ever existed. I dunno, I still call soccer, soccer. And football I call football. I like football better though...
Maybe its becuase I can hit somebody and not get introuble for it (<font color =black>unless its clipping or before the play is in action!</font color =black>) And remember..... <font color =black>Dallas Cowboys rule.</font color =black> |

The closest I came to that (which still wasn't a matter of making fun of other cultures so much as praising one in particular, and being honest about some generalities) was in another post. In this one I made fun of other sports (that is, basketball)--and soccer. Lummox JR |
