i know living dead and tanks are both advanced, i have played both. But i have played your games, and i know TBG kills them in code. See you may have alot of code but you dont have advanced. See one thing about advanced is being able to do somthing without alot of code that is real neet. And you dont know how advanced the stuff in TBG is, oh and you have not played all my games, i have only released my first 2 to the public. I have had many many more that have not done anything because i start somthing else before im satisfied.

I like the idea that the person building the game has the right to include what they like. That means if they only want things to happen "their way", it's their right to do that. Just as some people don't like medieval games, some people may not like those types of games. That's their problem, go play something else if it bothers you.

Exactly, how do you know what the code is like in FFO? is advanced, ive showed good coder's and there impressed. I havnt released all my games, and i would have released my best, but my hard-drive was whiped, so the hell with that. Like i said, wait till FFo version 2.1B itll be alot more advanced then 2.0 and will rock all other FF games in BYOND ;) RaeKwon (last time i am posting, this is getting to far off topic and i dont want to start a flame war with Scobby) |

Ok i cant tell you that your FFO game is not advanced because thats one i have not played, but why are you making another fan game?!?!?! I mean dont turn FF into DBZ on byond. But ask LOW, TBG and TextMud have some advanced stuff in them. I wasy ask LOW because are games are almost identical. With a few perks and losses in both. Like i have music, he has lots and lots of people paying to host, see what i mean, lol bad example

RandomCombat Alk's Bank Code *cough* Actually, my random combat aint considered realy "random" i simply did this. turf And, no i did not use Alk's bank code, a bank code is rather realy easy. mob/BankKeeper This ain't alk's i just coded this up, and also going to edit it abit more for Final fantasy online. Codeing is rather pretty easy, i give Super16 credit though, the lil bitch taught me alot inwhich i did not know, expecially combat errors where errors would flood the chat :P RaeKwon |

There is alot of people in BYOND, and me and you both are alittle below Medium, for instance Good Pretty Good Medium Able to code, but goes long way Isnt to bad Is bad Sucks! I mostly wanted to comment on the pun... since we're discussing it, though, is this game more a roleplaying game or a strategy one? In a strategy game, I see less harm from "rounding out" minority occurences. The whole idea behind a strategy simulation is to take a complicated thing and reduce it to a series of easily modeled rules.
Far be it from me to tell someone else what they should do with their game, but if it is more of an RPG, then I'm curious how exactly adding gender checks to marriage makes for less coding and not more. :P. |

ok ill give you that, although i think im one brackit up, but we are at similure levels, or at least were at the tiem of my last rpg

I would have to nominate myself for original ideas, at least in the top 10, being one of the very, very few people to have an RPG with an original story that unfolds as you play. Plus I will never make a fan game(Never will make one, Never), nor will I make an RPG without a good story :P. I also think I should make at least top 10 best coders, cause there really hasn't been anything I havent been able to do so far(Unless BYOND prevents me so, also there might be more than 10 better coders than me out there, which it would take a while to accually place someone ahead of someone else), only thing I ever have trouble on is savefile junk, cause I never bothered to learn much about it, but we all have something like that :P.
I think DDT are probably the best coders, and gfx makers around... But for gfx makers, I could only maybe name you like 4 people that I know of really. You can't really pick the best coders and such, because you would accually have to see their source code(Librarys/Demos/Tutorials are a great way to see the accual work they put into something.) But then again some games you can see how good a person is just by looking at the game. Also you can't always judge a person by 1 single game. Original ideas I would have to give to everyone who made a game strait from the old thinker... You can't really judge which original ideas are better, because if it's original, it's original, it's not good original bad original... The bad/good parts of the game would fall under other categories (Such as coding and gfx). |

Yes, it really is a strategy game, though there are lots of roleplaying elements (notably, players are expected to be in-character for their squadron). However, players are never pilots, and I'm still debating whether or not I want to have players as actual entities (i.e. mobs that can move around) or not. The game is most centred around giving each of these archetypes a personality, then throwing them into combat and witnessing their horror. Mainly, the whole thing is designed to make the civil war have atmosphere -- if a pilot's best friend dies, \she'll be demoralised and irrational. If a pilot's sibling dies, \he'll go berserk. If a pilot's spouse dies, \she'll become almost suicidal. Hopefully, if I pull it off correctly, it'll genuinely convey the brutality of the war in a supposedly enlightened future. (The pilots are supposed to communicate through the comm channels. For example, I have every intention of having a combat something like this (players' orders are transcripted in a speech-like format, though they're entered via command menus and the HUD): Cmdr. J. Gibson: Bravo Two, increase speed to 2500 m/s. Lt. E. Lausanne: Roger that, HQ. En. T. Tenson: HQ! I'm reading multiple bogies on scope! Cmdr. J. Gibson: Bravo Four, rotate to face bearing 148. Fire at will! En. T. Tenson: Understood, but I don't know how long I can hold 'em off! En. R. Marks: Sir! I can't shake this guy! Sir...! ...AAAGH! En. J. Shroedenger: Robert! NOOOO! That's way-y-y down on the TODO list (after the demo date, definitely) but it's one of the more necessary parts of the game universe. =) ) |

Yep. Unfortunately, the pilots in the game are capable of falling in love with each other (or, at least, will be capable when I tackle that aspect on the TODO list), getting married, etc., so sex -- though not referred to, either implicitly or explicitly -- is still a factor.
I'm only going to work with the standard male-female relationship, though, for two reasons: 1, it's what's familiar to me, and 2) realism isn't exactly what I'm aiming for. It's not as though I'm making any commentary that non-heterosexual things are "wrong" or anything; I'm simply taking the majority and making it the rule without exceptions. That saves me coding time and allows me to safely avoid having to work out issues.
In the Republic's society, though, the world is entirely racially, ethnically, and sexually tolerant. Well, visibly, anyway. I doubt that racism and the like is completely abolished, but it doesn't rear its ugly head at any time.
(I like the fact that I punned "skirt the issue" without even realising it. =P)
