I'm a freak who has never played Bomberman, Final Fantasy, Super Smash Brothers, You Don't Know Jack, Bust A Move, Dance Dance Revolution, Wing Commander, any strategic RPG, any strategy game since Warcraft II, and most fps games of the post-DOOM era except Quake (I), Unreal (non-Tournament), Deus Ex, and the Serious Sam: The Second Encounter demo.
I've also barely played any Dragon Warrior, Ultima, Wizardry, or Zork.
What popular franchises have you never played?

and most fps games of the post-DOOM era except Quake (I) What's weird to me is how many people have never played Quake I... what's weirder still is how they use the name "Quake" generically to refer to II-III, and look at you weird when you talk about things from Quake I. I liked Quake I... I modded the hell out of the single player game, considering I had no facility for 3D modeling. Some of my changes would've been interesting in deathmatch... especially my Hazards mod, which just added new dangers to existing map features... for instance, any map with lava and lavaballs would have pressure build up, be relieved by minor eruptions (accompanied by screen shaking and small random movements of everything on the ground), until a big one hits, splashing lava and flaming rocks everywhere. Any map with sky on it had random lightning strikes. I liked making singleplayer mods that involved making the monsters insanely challenging, then upping the player abilities to almost meet them. My favorite mod had grunts that exploded when killed, with an appropriate shower of gibs... the head would act like one of the slime monsters, continuing to bounce along on its own, trailing blood as it attacked you, and when killed, it would of course blow up as well. Zombies were much the same as standard Quake zombies, except that when you did gib them, their head would stick around, and if you didn't find that and destroy it, the whole body would regrow. Hellknights were simply indestructible... even if you gibbed them, all their bodily gibs would stick around, and after a while, they would levitate straight up in the air then gravitate towards each other and reform. I made dogs into hellhounds, that could spit fire and run on the air. Zombie fish could jump out of the water to attack, and like regular zombies, had to be gibbed if you wanted them to stay dead. Shamblers had a number of spells, lightning being the least of them. Fiends could jump off of walls to attack from unpredictable angles, or reach areas they otherwise couldn't. |

You do know Serious Sam: The Second Encounter came out right? So not only did you miss the demo, you missed the game =).

Heh, I've never played many of the PlayStation exclusives... Seeing as I've never owned a PSX or a PS2...and most of my friends are Nintendo-ites as well...I've never had the chance...
My little brother now has a PSX...but I haven't gotten around to playing through any of the games... I play very few "professional" computer games, so there are a ton of them that I haven't played... In fact, the only> big name games that have ever been installed on my computer are The Sims and Unreal Tournament... Just those two... And UT is long gone... I've played a few of the others on my friend's computers, though... Like Quake 3 and Counter-Strike (along with the unmodded Half-Life)... Actually, the reason Idon't play computer games is that I really dislike the controls... I'd much rather have a console controller in my hands than have to remember 30-40 mapped keys on my keyboard and whatnot (I know that's exaggerating, but it's what it feels like)... Of course I could always use my USB gamepad to play these games... But I could never map all of the necessary commands to a console controller... And the hassle involved has just made me not want to play any computer games... Especially if I have to buy them myself...lol So yes, there are all kinds of games that I have never experienced... |

I have played it and I learned that Serious Sam is the most fun I have had in an FPS in a long time. However, I don't have any money to spend on games. I might steal my cousin's CD for the first SS though. |

I never played any Final Fantasy or Ultima games. Actually almost all of your list I haven't played, except I did play Duke 3D and Quake I (and III, just a little), and I've played a couple versions of You Don't Know Jack. (I always wish I'd gotten into Ultima, because I hear it's an RPG style right up my alley.) To comment a little on DOOM and its spinoffs: I was a bigtime DOOM hacker back in the day, using DeHackEd to modify the EXE in interesting ways; my first Web page ever was "Lummox JR's DeHackEd Grab Bag", a fun little collection of tricks to use in the game. (I actually ended up contributing a great deal to DeHackEd; my analysis of the EXE file helped discover the secret behind modifying "code pointers" in sprite frames, which led to some really cool effects.) I got into Quake a bit but found gameplay mostly pretty boring. Leftley's right; the designers had no clue how to handle the action behind it, so Duke 3D actually ended up being a much better game. Quake was, however, easy to modify, whereas Duke 3D had a lot of hard-coded stuff you couldn't work around (although there were other things that could be changed). I spent a good chunk of summer '97 trying to get a shootable camera (that is, you'd shoot it at a wall and it'd stick and monitor your enemies) to work, but it had some obstruction-of-vision problems. A flamethrower patch I tried to improve on also didn't work out too well. The one cool thing I did make, though, was a death ray that could shoot through walls. Lummox JR |

Amen to that...I'm not a big fan of faster paced computer games, but I've play some... if I found it to be a free download. I never played any of those oh-so-popular card games, except for Magic, which I played for about 2 weeks, then I spilled something on all my cards... |
