In honour of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, the theme word is...
<span style="font-size: 300%; text-align: center;
font-weight:bold">plunder (verb)
Wiktionary, from whose pages I be plunderin' the followin' definition,
defines the verb "to plunder" as:
- To take the goods of by force (as in war); pillage; sack. "The
mercenaries plundered the small town." - To take by force or
wrongfully; steal; loot. "'Now to plunder, mateys!' screamed the
buccaneer, to cries of 'Arrgh!' and 'Aye!' all around." - To make
extensive use of as if by plundering; use or use up wrongfully. "The
miners plundered the jungle for its diamonds, and soon it became a muddy
waste." - To commit robbery or looting. "The shopkeep was
plundered of his posessions by the burglar."
Remember, th' game yer make must incorporate the theme into its core
gameplay. So if yer just taking a racin' game or a shootin' game and
slapping th' collectin' of loot on top of it, then ye shall be thrown
into the scuppers! Pacman clones won't be qualifyin' either (and not
only because of thar fan games rule).
If yer not be sure if yer game qualifies as havin' plunderin' as a core
game mechanic, be sure to be askin' IainPeregrine or meself, and we'll
set yer straight.
Piratical trimmin's are heartily encouraged but are not required.
As evidenced by th' above definition, not only pirates be plunderin'
nowadays. Heck, yer might even be able to get away with a good ol'
roguelike RPG if yer make plunderin' important enough to th' gameplay.
And remember, no fan games, or ye shall be made to walk thar
plank! Us pirates like copyright infringement on th' whole, but only
when it's us that are doin' the infringin'!
Get to work, landlubbers! I want to be seein' a SHINE on them swabbed
decks by th' time I be gettin' back! Arrrrr!
