My personal belief is that spamming is repetitive to the point of being obnoxious. like a 2 year old getting the attention of their parent.

Or Advertisements.

Flooding is anything about any subject or even anything about no subject at all that takes up large amounts of space or time.

To me, Spamming can be tolerated, but flooding is downright barbaric.

What are youre views?

(if you think this topic is a waste of time, dont waste your time replying, thank you)
Spamming can be tolerated
Bah. Obviously you've never had a Hotmail account. :)

Spamming and flooding are basically the same thing. There are differences, but I think that both are just as bad as each other. Of course, whether a post annoys somebody can often depend on their viewpoint. (For example, some people may be irritated when someone posts a nonsensical topic about cheese, but others will laugh and join in.)
how about a flood of spam O.o

i have hotmail and i dont get spammed because i know my rights. im on most companies DNC list. i actually hope they harrass me so i can make easy money

I tried tracking down some of my Hotmail spam once, but even with my fairly good knowledge of MIME headers and suchlike I still couldn't manage to find out who originally sent it. They can hide it pretty well, you know.

Besides, I live in Australia and I don't think we have anti-spam laws here (which absolutely sucks). Dunno which country's laws would apply if the Hotmail servers are in the U.S. (at least, I assume they are), but I don't know who to forward them to anyway to get them punished or whatever. :(

Believe me, when you start getting 50+ spam emails PER DAY, then you'll really hate it. Once a spammer had a glitch in their spamming program and sent me the same email nearly 1,000 times! (I'm serious!) Now THAT was annoying. >(

has 'miss cleo' talked to you yet? Man, I've blocked her out 10 times...

if that were to happen to me id have a lawyer have my hotmail account information sent to him and id sue. Id be rich.

It costs money to sue, but with as much proof as you can get there would be a settlement

You could... if there were actually any such laws yet. Telemarketers who do not follow the do not call list can be subjected to a penalty of between $500 and $1500, provided that they are not a tax-exempt nonprofit group and they are not calling based on a previous business relationship, but this only applies to phone calls, not e-mail.

As of now, direct marketing through e-mail is almost completely unregulated, although there are numerous bills being proposed which would require a valid opt-out address and a clear identification of source. E-mail is more like snail mail than telephone communication, and so the model that will probably emerge will resemble what's currently in place for direct mailing, which is largely voluntary. Self-regulating organizations like the Direct Marketing Association maintain national do not mail and do not share my information lists, which reputable businesses follow. The same organization (the DMA) also maintains a do not call and do not email list, but of course, less companies follow that.

The main thing that e-mail marketers get brought down for is simple fraud.

Laws are created based on their need for them. do you say that there is no need to regulate internet marketing?

Voice your opinion to the government and it will come about eventually. As for it not being illigal,

I live in Canada, any kind of harrasment is punishable by law and that doesnt exclude the internet.

No, I say there are few laws regulating internet marketing. I said nothing about need, and I said nothing about the future state of affairs. I am talking about the here and now, what is.

And if the company harassing you is also in Canada, then you may have a case. Otherwise, you'll get no farther than France did, trying to get Yahoo to shut down the Nazi paraphenalia auctions.

In short, you may be on the side of angels, but if the devil's on the other side of the border, you're out of luck.
