you sir are under a false impression of real dictatorship. you are completely blinded by your own fears of what only madmen would do.

dictatorship CAN be good, if theres a good dictator. Dictatorship doesnt mean you will be killed for not complying, that is just plain wrong.

I refuse to read more of your message, that part is as far as stupidity goes.

..and in the middle of the United States of America is the state of Iowa. Located in Iowa is a city called Iowa City. Iowa City is on the banks of the Iowa River. The University of Iowa is located in this city. All of the locations/geographical features I have mentioned in this paragraph have names. Pretty simple and easy to understand, isn't it? Not very confusing, is it?

Located in the center of the continent of North America (the name of the continent) is the United States of America (the name of the country). Is there a rule that a country can't take its name from the same source as the continent it occupies? When we're referring to our country as America, we are simply shortening its proper name, something most countries do.

For that matter, the etymology of the word "America" is very unclear (the "Amerigo Vespucci" theory that most of us probably read about in history class is by no means proven)... it's even possible that it was originally applied to the portion of the landmass our country occupies. In which case, the continents/regions took their names from us.

I see your point. Your statements are more intelligent comments than I've seen by other people in these forums, so I won't reply by inststing that I am correct and that you are wrong, nor will I complain about or correct your grammar. But where I'm from we call ourselves "the colonies", not states. (I am not saying that to disagree with you, it is a joke, I'm from a farming town)

eventually yes, but it takes time for power to corrupt. but still theres ways around that. the reason why power corrupts even the most noble of minds is because nobody dares quetion them.. which is why they must always have an advisor. a man who acts as a dissassociated collective thought and representation of all people as a whole..

Look at the games being hosted on byond, see each of them as a country, people dictate to others about what can and cannot be done. they punish those who dont listen, but overall grant those who follow a basic set of rules freedoms that even americans cannot have..

But your right eventually the dicator would become corrupt and greedy... thats just the way people are.

Im saying thought, that dicatorships can be good, and its rare, but very few people dont care about menial things like possessions. and care for people overall.

thats up to you, but dont blindly say im wrong just because your used to your cultures way of life.

there is no rule, but its rude to the other countries located on that same continent.

now for the title/name theory.. I am a Mister, but that is not my name.. that is my title..

A knight is a Sir but that is not his/her name it would be rude to call someone Knight. you refer to them as Sir Knight if you dont know their name.

Which brings me back to the United States. which means that they are just a bunch of states rolled together on America.. the USA has no name, just a title.. its been that way for a long time.

Could it really hurt to have a vote on a name for the country?

After all, its the United States of America, not America of the United States..
In response to Dareb
I just gathered everyone in the USA together and we all voted. We have decided that we want "The United States of America" to be both our name and title.

ok. from hereon in ill refer to americans as clumsies (to represent the casualty rates of the battles in the last 30 years, most of which being friendly fire)
In response to Dareb
which btw is probably why they do so well when fighting.. they never really get a good look at the targets.
In response to Dareb
Your statement elicits no heated response from me. I have no control over our war tactics, so calling us "clumsies" bothers me none. My final word has been said on this topic.

The United States of America is a descriptive name... it describes that the country was formed when a number of American states (that is, independent sovereign bodies located in the Americas) united. Guess what England means? Land of the Angles. Omigod! England isn't a name... it's a history lesson!
In response to Dareb
It's come to this... I'm actually defending America's war machine.

Our friendly fire rate is not remarkable. It only seems so in the absence of any other measurable casualties.
In response to Lesbian Assassin
yes but United sates of america, is a placid name.
In response to Dareb
Considering that no one has any clue what "America" actually means, or where precisely it came from, I think it's wonderfully enigmatic. Compelling, even.
In response to Dareb
Do you live in the United States of America?
In response to Jotdaniel
no i live in canada. in the city canadian bacon was filmed in, in the city 20% of exit wounds was filmed in, and in the city 100% of Eternal Darkness for the gamecube was made.
In response to Dareb
THEN SHUT THE HELL UP. Perhaps we like the name we have, and yes it is a name. You have no right to judge a country you dont even live in. I could make fun on Canada all day long, but I'm not. Why SHOULD we change our NAME anyway? What does it hurt you?
In response to Jotdaniel
well. meeeeeeeeeeeeYOW!
In response to Dareb
You know, there's a story that Canada got its name from a sailor who exclaimed "Here, nothing!" (Ca, nada!)

Lol.
