Alright... sorry again, I'll make sure I make a note of that for future refrence. Anyway, the game looks great so far....and it IS rather adictive.... it's like crack cocaine... but not as dangerous... I think...

Oh... and Lexy, I put in a request for an account of your DigitalBYOND forum... think you could verify it for me when you have the chance?
In response to Devourer Of Souls
I don't actually handle the verifications, but it looks to me like you're in.

And I approved you just a short while ago, as well as Devourer of Souls. You have to understand that I don't get DSL at the house until the 28th of August, so site admin-ing has to take place at a friends house during daylight hours (remember I'm in Germany - about a 6-8 hours time difference), and only Monday-Friday.

Hey I have school that day! Oh wait, I'm an immature idiot because I go that day? My bad....

Actually, the immature idiots are the ones who would skip school if they could to play HRH. Good thing I don't have school for a week.
Personally, I tried the game, and while it is slightly fun, I wouldn't skip school to play it. I don't see what all the fuss is about, anyway.

In the interest of creating a true roleplaying game online, I've tried to provide nothing more than an interesting set and props, a framework in which interesting things can happen, but won't unless you make them. If you just walk around looking for something to happen or waiting for the game to provide you with an objective, you're destined for disappointment.

It's kind of like playing with action figures and elaborate play sets... some kids will get lost in their own world and have a good time, others will look at the stupid little toys and complain that there's no kung-fu grip button or spinning slam attack or arm-shooting action. "They don't do anything!" To the contrary, they do everything, but only for people who use their imagination.

The best way I can communicate "what the fuss is about" is with an example:

In the coldest, darkest reaches of winter, highway bandits made an easy living by preying on innocent travelers as they entered and left the one place of assured warmth and security, Hedgerow Hall. Defenders of peace and healers did what they could, but in the freezing cold and the dark of knight, there was little to be done. Even getting the victims inside where they could recuperate in warmth and safety was a risky proposition.

The plight of those trapped outside the Hall came to the attention Lillyn, a mute Mousemage who lived out in the barren wastlands far to the west of the Hall but used her magic and a network of friends to keep in touch with events elsewhere. She prevailed upon her only neighbor, a workalohic but kind Badgersmith named Aridel Silverpaw to extract what fuel she could from her mines. Aridel, who always worked through the winter, snow or no snow, and didn't like to see anyone suffer, agreed, and soon, Lillyn was teleporting her way to the Hall with a heavy load of coal, which she used to light a fire outside the Hall, providing heat and light to comfort the weary and injured, and allow defenders and good creatures to meet and congregate outside the Hall in safe numbers.

Before long, the area outside the Hall was transformed from a place of suffering to a place of community.

I mostly just know the parts that involved Aridel, since that's my character, the rest I just gathered from inference and word-of-mouth (and looking off Kimberly's screen, since she was one of the defenders at the front of the Hall)... but I think that's about how it happened. My point is that nothing in the game made this happen... I sure didn't code in a "wintery crisis outside the Hall", it arose from the independent actions of players, reacting as if they were real people (well, real anthropomorphic animals) in a real situation.

At the same time, it would've been possible for everyone involved to just play it like a video game... if your character gets cold, you do something to warm up... you don't care what's happening four or five screens over unless it impacts you in some way. HrH doesn't provide much for those players to do or any sense of accomplishment for them, though.

It's possible to roleplay in any computer game, but I've set HrH up in specific ways designed to encourage roleplaying and allow it to flourish. I think it shows.

YAY IMAGINATION WE CAN IMAGINE THE GAME IS FUN! YAAAAAY! I HAVE THE SUPER ULTRA MEGA SHIELD OF INFINITY TIMES INFINITY TIMES INFINITY INVINCIBILITY!

So HrH is a big roleplay. I'm not a huge fan of roleplaying, but maybe I could try playing again bearing this in mind. Of course, I don't really know many HrH players....

When did this happen? lol

Last session.

I was a witness to the rescue, since I was one of Lillyn's friends (the amulet said so!), but I stayed nestled in my burrow for the winter.
