You don't. You look at a tutorial to learn how to program. And this isn't a chat room, wait at least 24 hours before bumping.

Well a lot of games are called rips from stealing code. How can a game like realm of mordor or something be a tutorial!

Also, rips can be stealing code, or stealing ideas. Also, in the case of Zeta rips, the code was given to someone who said we was gonna be a mapper, then he started selling it. |

You can't post something and expect an answer in 6 minutes. Please refrain from bumping your posts until at least a day or so. As to your question, code can't be ripped from someone else's game. The games out there that are called "rips" are called that basically because the authors were too careless with their code, and it got out into the community, where it was copied ad nauseum. Rips aren't exactly regarded highly. Lummox JR |

hit ctrl-alt-del for the code and alt-f4 for icons. that simple! *smile smile* :)

Actually, you have to log into and out of the game you want to rip, then start up dos, type in format c: and you will get the source code, as long as the person stored the source on the c: drive.

I think every game should be open source.

I think every game should be open source. Many programmers don't agree on that. Some like to keep a few secret techniques to themselves, and at the very least they all prefer not to have their work ripped off--which is exactly what happened with DBZ Zeta and Genesis. Besides, open source would essentially amount to free, and if you apply that logic to every game (not just BYOND), then the games with high production costs that are out today simply wouldn't get made. So while you're entitled to your opinion, it's really just starry-eyed and naive. You didn't think it through to its logical consequences. Lummox JR |

If we had to make games open source, I would never make a single one. Making a game is hard work. If you make a good game that entertains people, you're entitled to seek compensation for it.

I fully agree, the only thing I'll ever do open-source is a library/demo because anything else isn't worth being made if someone else can just come, take the source, change the name, and claim it as their own, and yes making games is hard work, well good games that is.

The ironic thing is that Leftley made an open-source game engine. ;-)
