My parents constantly yell at me for spending several COUNTLESS hours on my computer (Anyone on byond who's on my buddy list KNOWS how much time I spend online programming, etc. About 60+ hours a week). Mostly byond, some C (Worked with it for 6 years), and well... Parents shun it off as if it's nothing and tell me to use my time for "WORTHY" things (anything they don't like, they don't want me dong -_-).
Hmm... Job opportunity for those in greater metropoliton area of washington dc? :P I live in Harford County :D (Not going to say more, just email me for more info ;p) -- Griz |
Oh, My parents? My dad died, He got the electric chair, For killing my mother.
My foster parents? They dropped me off in a sewage ditch The hobos that found me? Were hit by cars hitchiking The Sewer rats? :') They love me so much and are proud, of me programming DM. Sorry i gotta go no, Rat mom wants some cheese. |
Well, as far back as I can remember, I've been a long ways ahead of my parents on the technological front... So they've come to expect me to know things like this...lol
They've always suggested that I go into some sort of computer-based career...even before I knew DM or even HTML...lol (mom is mostly the one who makes these types of suggestions) However, they've also in the past suggested many other jobs... Mostly because I have quite a few talents that are going to waste...lol So anything new that I learn isn't seen as anything out of the ordinary from their perspective... They just assume that I can do pretty much anything I set out to do... |

You did, however, reassure me, even though Z was your target -- I was thinking that with all of the competition I have (especially from the kids whose parents won't accept a B on a report card), there'd be a chance that I might wind up in some less than savoury computer-related job, like *shudder* ...accounting. You have nothing to fear. Last I heard, applicants for degrees in computing were going down, while demand is going up, now that every company needs some kind of technical computer support. Why people aren't clamoring for these jobs beats me...challenging work, good money, employees who are respected for what they can provide. Not many jobs out there have all that. (My brother isn't much help, either. He pretty much says "aim low because you won't be able to hit it if you aim too high". I pretty much say "aim high because it's a lot easier to climb down than it is to climb up".) You know how you get a job at McDonalds? You apply for it. You know how you don't get a high paying job at a wizzy company? You don't apply for it. |

There will be more and more jobs available soon, as more and more Baby Boomers retire. At the same time, unless a miracle happens, the overall quality of the labor pool will decline. It may be a bad thing for the world at large, but it'll be a good situation for polite, literate, industrious people who want to find jobs. In the days to come, I suspect most employers will be relieved just to find someone who isn't an utter screw-up. |

That way the community will be more plesant and it will help everyone out more so we don't get as many flamewars and fights here. So just try to cool down alittle, this goes for everyone including me, with the exception of Dan, Tom and maybe a few others. --Lee PS; This is in no way a threat or a verbal accusation saying that you always do it. So please do not take this as an offence. |

Thank you Lee, No worries my friend, I am just trying to keep the peace here. I think that a community with peace in all situations is better than one that is full of arguments. Not only that, but, think of what a community this large could do if we all worked together without fighting or arguing. If we managed to get a peaceful community we could then have more people making better and more fulfilled games, that would be enjoying for both the creators of BYOND (Dan and Tom) and us, the BYOND Community. Whoever is against this is really not needed as we do not need troublesome folk around provoking others to get angry and freak out on the provokers. --Lee |

Not only games, Money.......We could make BYOND really rich and a big Gaming company they could hire us as programmers and make great games for Dan and Tom. And they give us shares in their mult-billion dollar company :) Just an idea... PS: I would like to be the JANITOR!, Who really is a programmer in disguise. Programmer Man :), Also for work I will require Tights, a mask, a cape, and a SideKick. |

I cannot allow Dan or Tom to see but hey, I cannot stop them :P I hope everyone will try to participate though :S --Lee |

I agree -- the more people who treat this site and this tool as a resource that can let them realize their creative dreams and allow them to help others do the same, the better off we are. |

Actually, if I can get my mortgage paid off, and Dantom sets its headquarters in Akron (which is the only logical place), I'll be happy to be the janitor who isn't a programmer in disguise. I'll just sweep the floors and occasionally offer helpful suggestions to the staff. |
