I suggest most of you, if you haven't already, check out SilkWizard's The "GM" Curse Article :)

Now, after I read that 7 paragraphed article, I started to realize that it's the same thing I said a while back about the term "GM". Thats why I too use the term "Administrator". If you read this SilkWizard, that was an awesome article and it's very true. Good Job

Thanks Branks, I appreciate the feedback!

I'm sure most "Administrators" agree with it, too.
That is a great article. All that is said is true.I have been very reluctant to pick even one adminstater for my upcoming game.I know maybe one person i can trust(me).

I use the term implementor. I agree totally, I am typically the sole implementor of my games, other than the server who gets a set of special "host" commands.
Yup, I wholeheartedly agree with everything said in that article...

It's been my policy as well to not appoint any "GM"s for DBTC (or any other games I release in the future) because I don't see the need for it... And only see that these kids are just trying to get some extra power to abuse in my game... I myself have "GM" powers simply for control for testing purposes...

I added a host command to allow hosts to boot disruptive players... That's all that's needed to run a smooth game in my eyes...

And believe me, I've gotten TONS of requests to make people GMs... It's almost a daily thing whenever I'm on for someone to page me to ask for GM powers (or to offer their help on the game...both of which I always politely turn down)

So no one besides myself will ever become a "GM" in my games... It's just not necessary to do things otherwise...

I think it's more fun to just allow players to earn those GM powers, well, some of them, late in the game anyway. Teleporting from location to location would be a fun skill for a wizard class to fiddle with. Or maybe just teleporting to a random location. I had a blast in CTF2 with my "Merlin" character, teleporting randomly and finding all kinds of weird places that I never knew existed.

And of course, Warriors could find the legendary "Sword of Booting"...

Well, maybe not.
:oP

Yeah, some "GM"-type powers would be neat to allow players to earn... But only the ones (like teleportation) that fit into the context of the game... Not things like muting other players, editing stats, deleting/creating items, etc...

I've thought of adding teleportation into DBTC because it's an actual ability used in DBZ... And it's very convenient, because in DBZ, one can only teleport to the location of a familiar energy signal (sense for a friend, teleport to their location)... So it would fit very nicely into my game... Just allow people to teleport to the location of anyone they've come in contact with before...picked from a list (which is already being kept by my game without teleportation, anyways, for other purposes)...

Simple as that... In fact, it'll probably be in the final release (which I've decided to hold off until November 4th, the one year anniversary of when I first began coding DBTC)

But no one needs any other "GM" powers...

What, there's no DBZ skill for tuning down the stats of someone you don't like?

"Graaagh! I'll use my awesome kai powers to, uh, lowers your strength a bunch! And, set your powerlevel back to zero! Take that, you horrible pest!"

If only...lol

Well, there are a couple of characters that have the ability to drain energy from others... But those characters are not in my game as of yet...lol

And there's a couple of characters that have telekinetic ability to stop people from moving, so that would work for a "lockmove" type of GM power...lol

I suppose if I really wanted to justify it, I could find some way of adjusting nearly any GM type power to fit a DBZ ability... Even the creation of objects... A few characters have created things from thin air (mostly clothing)...

But either way... These types of powers aren't needed for my game...so they won't be given out to the players...

Well, remember that the more things there are to achieve in your game, the longer players will stick around.

Well, as it stands right now (in the version I'm currently working on, not the uploaded version), DBTC has a ton of things to do... Some that affect a game-winning goal, and some that are just there for the heck of it... I've pretty much represented just about every major character in DBZ...and a lot of the locations as well... My game even has the dragon balls (what a concept for a DBZ game!)...lol

And just when you think you've won...there's more after that...lol An actual loose storyline pops up... During which are a few "choose your own adventure" type situations that affect what outcome the game will have for you...

There really isn't much replayability, though...once you've accomplished everything, there isn't much reason to play it again... Except to harass the other players...lol

I'm thinking of adding in an entirely new section to the game that can only be accessed by the winners of the base game... A place with a bunch of neat stuff that isn't in the rest of the game... And perhaps a whole new storyline... Like a sequel, only accessable by those that have completed the first one...

So there's plenty of reason for players to play for a while... I haven't yet tried to go through the game honestly from beginning to end, though...but I'm pretty sure it'll take a lot of play-time...

Nice article... now I have somewhere to refer people to when they ask me for GM powers in Thieves for reporting a bug... lol. :)
