Updated. It now moves as if it has physics on the mouth rather than just sticking partway into the ground when closed.

I also made it open/close it's mouth a bit on the way back up in order to express the "chewing" animation a lot more.

All I have to do is animate how it will look to die and I should be done with it. I may also add an effect that kicks up some dirt when it hits the ground.

One a side note, some insight into how I came up with it: I originally wanted to have it swing like a wrecking ball at it's target. I wanted to do that because there's already games where enemies drop down like this and I didn't want to just be ripping them off.

Unfortunately, getting that to work properly would've been much more difficult, not to mention the fact that it's not really practical for a creature to capture prey by swinging when it can just drop down.

Also, I'm lazy.

I like the up animation. The dust clouds on impact would be a great addition. Wondering what the hit animation looks like. Does it hold on and pull up until the player attacks his way out of the grip? :)

The force is strong with this one.

Like what you did with the lightning. Looks really good.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE.

@Poplava: Nope (heh), currently it doesn't have an animation, the player just takes damage when touching it.

I would put in an animation, but I'm afraid that they'd become more annoying than menacing, as grabbing up the player in a long animation would be very frustrating with how common these enemies will be in this area.

I don't want the jungle area to end up being called "the place with those F*ing plants."

Edit: I also added a little idle animation for them so they're not static when chilling on the ceiling.

Can you make it so that when the mouth hits the ground we can jump onto it so when it starts going back up we can ride it like an elevator :D?

I wanted to do that so badly but it had a lot of problems. Namely: Getting wedged between it and the ceiling and being unable to escape D:

I could see this being an awesome feature if done right.
You could even go as far as having it "crush" the player if they're still riding it when it gets to the top.

Official Name?: Fing Muscipula

The wikipedia page for venus flytrap is actually quite interesting with all sorts of neat game play and puzzle ideas. Might be worth checking out if you plan to add more plant features.
