Nope, they are definitely two different people...

Gandalf (the mage in LoTR) is played by an actor named Ian McKellan...

Dumbledore is played by another man, whom died shortly before the second movie came out (and I forget his name at the moment)... So for the rest of the movies, they're going to have to cast a new actor for the role... But either way, they're not the same guy...

Here's something that just might blow your mind: Dumbledore and Gandalf are not played by the same person, but Gandalf and Magneto are...
