Thats not its original form though, Hitler tilted it on its side, like the one hes using, and then used it. The original one your talking about it not tilted. Besides, I'm not really upset about this, I was just a little surprised thats all.
EDIT: If youll notice, none of the swastikas on that site you mentioned are tilted, that being the original form. I beleive I already mentioned what the tilted version was used for. |
With all due respect, there's plenty of good luck charms still available that aren't associated with the extermination of 6 million human lives. How lucky can it possibly be now?
|
My understanding is that the good luck charm interpretation is more associated with the symmetrical cross that was worn in WWI; even though the swastika eventually mutated out of that, it carries a heavy weight of evil that the earlier symbol doesn't.

Whatever the symbol meant or might have meant was changed when Hitler used it. Since then it is more commonly seen as a symbol of hate than as a symbol of Dragon Warrior Chat "games".
|
The swastika was adopted by Germany’s Nazi Party. Prior to the Nazis co-opting this symbol, it was known as a good luck symbol and was used by various religious groups. Hitler made the Nazi swastika unique to his party by reversing the normal direction of the symbol so that it appeared to spin clockwise. Today, it is widely used, in various incarnations, by neo-Nazis, racist skinheads and other white supremacist groups.

What the hell is your point? I already knew all that. My point is your using the same version used by hitler. Whered you get that definition from anyway?

But given that the 1920s are over, and for all we know you just learned this on this very thread, what excuse do you have for using the swastika in a hub entry in the tail end of 2002 since that you had to know what it means now? Let's face facts here--it's almost beyond belief that you intended the good luck charm meaning. If you even knew about it before this thread it was probably just to cover your butt in case this got you into trouble. There's no way you couldn't have known how people take this symbol in a modern context, and it simply isn't used for "good luck" or for religious purposes anymore. Personally I'm of the opinion that you aren't actually inclined toward any Nazi crap, but you thought it'd be funny to see people's reactions to it. And if it bugs you that I'm reading a lot into your intentions--get used to it. That's the risk you took when you pulled this stunt, because the swastika isn't something you can just idly display without getting a nasty reaction. Lummox JR |

Which is basically my point. When the swastika in this form had any good connotations was when the Nazis first took it; it's been so thoroughly associated with them since that that connotation is utterly buried. Even the older symbol is more commonly thought of as being just a German emblem from WWI than a symbol of good luck, but the later version was used so heavily in WWII--and today still is not meant to mean "good luck", but exclusively to mean "Nazi"--its old meaning is now totally irrelevant. so what if i meant it in a racist way what are you going to do Ban me? I know you can’t. I only did it for one day and I changed it when all of this started.

My Grandfather was held in a Concentration camp. Don't you think that seeing that symbol would affect a person. People like you try to make excuses on what is what. What your saying is that the swastika is not bad but good because of the religious crap(i believe in God and go to church every Sunday so don't take that phrase wrong). BULL CRAP. People don't know that stuff so they lable you as a nazi. And besides why would you have a nazi hub icon anyway. What is the point of having it. Think before you put something up like that.

So you should make sure he is doing what you think he is doing, before getting all upset about it. And even so, it will be up to DanTom to determine if this is content they wish to allow or not.
