Is this on a router, or a built-in firewall like the one in Windows XP?

Router

Okay, here's what to do, then.

  • Find out what your computer's local IP address is. (That's not the address seen by everyone else.) If you're on a Linksys router, it should be something like 192.168.1.100, and you have to fill in the last number. Start on the first row in the table that doesn't have anything in it.
  • Choose which ports you want to forward. This can be any number from 1 to 65535, but for practical purposes you should choose ones at least above 2000. Linksys gives you the option of picking a range of ports to forward, like 5000 to 5009 or so. For the sake of example, let's say you pick 5000-5009. (You should have at least two ports: One for games, another for the pager.)
  • Choose TCP as the protocol; you can choose TCP and UDP together, but TCP is the important one. Most Internet connections use TCP, like when you download a file or browse the Web. TCP is like a phone call, whereas UDP is like sending a postcard that may or may not make it.
  • When you start BYOND, configure the pager to use one of the ports you assigned. Then use one of the others the next time you host a game.

What you've just said is meaningless to me. You need to be a lot more specific and detailed in what you say when asking for help on this stuff, because you can't assume someone knows exactly which router or firewall you're working with. On the first pass, you didn't mention which you had, and the second time around you only said you had a router, but didn't say which brand. These things matter immensely, and any details you can provide will help others help you.

If your internet acces is working now, I would not mess with the WAN configuration - that is usually where you setup up the router to connect to the internet. The only things you should change are under LAN configuration - opening ports, etc.
