Suppose you deleted your key for some reason (this is hypothetical). Someone comes to BYOND and registers the key RaeKwon. Wouldn't he have a fun time trying to convince us all that he isn't you?

So be it. That'd be my fault for deleting the key, or being inactive for 60 Days. I don't think Dantom want a bunch of keys that have been sitting there for years that no one has logged on. This could save them a lot of money, which I thought this whole "argument" was about?

Is the dollar per key a statistic or a fee? Are they literally being charged a dollar per key or is that kust what their costs average out to be?
Here i'll save you time crispy.

Tom said it costs them an estimation of $1 a year, per key. I feel bad for them if there is truley 52,000 keys.

Did you use the "reply to random post" button too?

Ive survived several floods of newbies. Trust me, it isnt that bad and the community gets better for it. Especially after the real jerks lose interest

It sounds like they took their costs and divided it by the number of keys there are. If you click the link of someone's key on a hub entry it looks it up by number, and you can then edit the URL and type in a different number. The numbers go up to almost 53000, I am assuming that means there are that many keys.

NOOOOOOO, man i hate adds, and pop ups, and it keeps going, i think that BYOND could find better ways, i don't like the banners at the top right now enough, i don't want to see adds for "Meet someone online" or "Life insurance, because your going to die in a few minutes if you don't get some" OK the second one is a little above what they say, but you get my point.

Siient, siient... If you're going to use that banner, use it PROPERLY. =P

Firstly, you're supposed to reply to the person who is actually flaming.

Secondly, you gotta use the OFFICIAL HTML! =)

Currently they are losing money per-user, they don't want that many new users, for obvious reasons.

I don't think they want those annoying banner ads on their site...again for obvious reasons.
In response to Nadrew
again?
In response to Nadrew
I dunno... if it was temporary, and discreet (no pop-ups or pop-unders), then I wouldn't mind seeing a banner ad on BYOND. I'd click on it every day just to give Dantom money. =P
In response to Sariat
As in. Again, it's for obvious reasons.

If I remember right, $1 per key was the figure that would handle the overhead of BYOND and make it a worthwhile business venture -- i.e., Dantom could continue to work on it without having to sell matches in the snow. But I could be remembering wrong.
