i dont mean to sound kinda weird but this space shuttle thing is pretty cool to me, mainly because Nacogdoches is right next to my town. but it kinda sucks too because we didnt get out of school today because no one found debris on campus until this morning when we all got to school. anyone live near Nacogdoches?
now that i think about it, i dont know if it was a piece of debris, because this morning it was roped off, but later on in the after noon it was gone. from what i heard it looked like a piece of insulation, but in our town there is no telling what it was.
Number 1: don't bump your posts.

Number 2: the fact that the death of seven astronauts is "cool" to you doesn't make you sound like a particularly useful individual. Those people died in the name of science, leaving behind numerous mourning families, and all you can think about is getting a day off of school. Shame on you.

i wansnt saying that it seemed "cool" to me, just weired that our small area of the world is getting national attention, first it was the jasper thing, now the space shuttle crashed near my small town. sorry if i seemed to come across that way. i was just telling everyone that i lived near the debris sites, and if anyone would like some info i would be able to tell them. and if not then sorry for posting.

I really don't seem to think it's all that horrible. Remember, these people knew the risk they were taking when they launched, and they were basically accepting the fact that there was a chance for them to die(A higher than usual chance.). Yes, it is unfortunate that they met their fate that day, but thats life. If they didn't want to have the chance of being burned up in the earth's atmosphere then they would of never gone into space, so call me a heartless bastard but I just don't feel that bad for them.

Firemen take risks. Is it meaningless when they die trying to save people from a burning building? Police officers take risks. You don't mind if get shot in the head while doing their job? Would the world be better if no one ever takes any risks? Of course not.

So since you asked, yes, you pretty much fit the profile of heartless bastard.

I really am not bothered if a fireman dies, or a policeman. It's all based on just taking what is dealt to you. If I get into a fight at school, then I'm taking the risk of getting kicked out, if I do get kicked out then oh well, because there is little I can do about it. Now if I don't get into a fight at school, then I don't get kicked out for fighing, therefore voiding that risk. If you don't want to die fighting fires as your job, then don't become a fireman.

Perhaps it's too much to ask for you to try and appreciate the sacrifices of the nation's hardest-working, most selfless men and women, and instead you should try starting small, appreciating the efforts of some sort of professional workers who make sacrifices for society on some smaller level. Such as, say, psychiatrists. Yes, I think that's a good idea.

Fair enough. You've stated your views. Now as a favor to you, let me make a small suggestion:

If you ever meet anyone who tells you of any personal sorrow of theirs, (perhaps the death of a loved one), you should do your best to pretend you have some compassion, and say something along the lines of "I am sorry for your loss." It will go a long way towards allowing you to blend in to society.

Even if you don't really mean it.

Anyone can be killed at almost any time. We live, we are aware of the fact that we can die. We accept that small risk and usually don't get paranoid, but we can still die at any second. So, because of this, is no death tragic?

If so, then yes, you are a heartless bastard =)
