Finally - I found a decent explanation of how copyright law works, from none other that one of my all-time favorite webcomic artists!

This should quell any misunderstanding generated in the past about games made in BYOND - fan-based or not...
As fan-games can fall under the same catefory as fan-fiction - such creations do also violate copyright law. But it depends on the orignal owner of the copyright whether they have the time or energies to pursue every violator... I think that is why fan-fiction and fan-games get a little slack, as long as they do not make any profit.

You guys get it easy - in the UK you have to apply for and pay for a copyright license.

Does that mean that RaeKwon's "copywrited Zeta" isn't actually copywrited?
(I don't understand things clearly today... short attention span, you know) |
Plus I don't think that they'd want to go kill some little kids hard work. I mean, they spent all that time changing the name of the game to Goku123456's Zeta, that kind of work is irreplacable.

Exactly. You have to pay to register a copyright. It's £35 for two years I think.
Go to www.copyrightservice.co.uk for more information. |
But regestering it is just a way to make sure its claimed, really anything you create is copyrighted. This post im writing right now is copyrighted. Registration is just a way to prove it.

Just because in the credits or where ever it says "Blah is copyrighted as of blah blah blah" doesn't mean that someone would even hesitate to take any ideas or graphics, or even coding if they have the source (as we have seen clearly from Zeta). <font color=silver>$~Stimulus~$</font> |
You really dont understand a copyright do you? It is copyrighted if all items from Dracons Zeta was given to Rae with full permision. Rae has email fundimation and they do not mind, thus he has a copyright to it. You DO NOT have to pay for a copyright, paying for a copyright regestation is just a way to help prove that you have a copyright.
