I think you are all complaining way too much about this, there is nothing as degrading as having a one month summer. They built a new school in my district, and because of it, we had a short summer. It blows.
I am in "school" right now, myself. Taking a Linux class at a community college. Then again, I don't have to leave until noon, so its not exactly getting up early for me.

You care waaaay too much.

This isn't exactly complicated. Public school semesters are government-mandated to last X amount of days, depending on the district. Y amount of extra days are built into the schedule as a buffer. If the amount of days actually met drops below X, more days must be added. These can be tacked on to the end of the year, or subtracted from existing holidays/breaks, or added on weekends. Schools that routinely experience large weather delays will usually have "free" breaks built into the weekday schedule so they can add days if needby... his school evidently doesn't do this. Maybe they've never needed to before. Anyway, why does it really matter if it's added onto the end of the year or added on a Saturday? It's still the same number of days. There's nothing actually "magical" about Saturday.

As for injustice... where's the injustice here? If the worst injustice he faces in his life is having to come to school the same number of days as everyone else in the district (and to be honest, that or something comparable probably will be the worst injustice he faces), then he's damn lucky.

It's obvious you still like to think of yourself as a big superhero, or at least a champion of the oppressed... but you've never been within shouting distance of actual oppression and the simple fact that some people would rather throw you a bone then listen to you bark doesn't make you any kind of a champion.

ive never once had to make up for a snow day, i smell bs here, they cant force you to go, and if you dont. they cant mark you absent. absence during this day will not result in any of your grades lowering.

This does strike me as odd. I would imagine most, if not all, public schools' policies do include provisions for making up lost days, and such make-up days are every bit as official and required as regular school days. However, most of the time my school ran over their allotted buffer of snow days, the extra days were added in by removing excess breaks, and once or twice they were added onto the end of the school year; adding in a Saturday seems pretty stupid.

Me and Dareb are in Canada, different laws up here. If we were to have school on a Saturday, we'd all commit suicide.

Where I come from, we're suppose to have the best school district in North America. We have 1 long vacation in December till January, March 9th - March 20, and June - September. We have over 30 professional days in the year to.

But there is one catch, we have the same class, same time, every single day for half the year, go to new classes, same thing. It's annoying. -_-

Although that was very nicely worded and swift, I have to say one thing... OUCH! ...That was truely evil and entertaining at the same time (You little devil you!! lol) but I had a nice little giggle or two...
New motto of the day: "The truth hurts, but it is deadly coming from Lexy..."

As the school topic goes, I have never had to attend school on a saturday... primarily because our super intendent is a moron. I'd rather go to school on a saturday than drive through sleet and "black ice" along with a foot or two of snow... but hey, that's just me.

I can't agree with you more here. Weve missed school maybe twice this year, but we should have taken 3 or 4 times that ammount of days of because of the weather.
I don't really get why people hate school so much, I think the social experience makes up for the work to be done.

We don't get thick snow down here, we havn't had snow that actually stayed since the year I was born.... The weather trouble in Houston is a mass of raging hurricanes which roll in at 200 miles per hour, and yet we still go to school on these days! So far, my worst school weather experience was when I had to spend the night at my school during hurricane Alison(Rather, one of those hurricanes they named in the past few years.), it began flooding outside, but it only reached 6 inches at the time, and the winds were going on at 100mph+, with sleet... this lasted around 8 hours after school ended.

Holidays can not be cut. Holiday weeks may be. I'm not sure but I think that is what you meant.
In response to Hedgemistress
Depends on the definition of "holiday"... a national or state holiday can't be cut by a school district because it's dictated by a body larger than the school district, but I was using the term "holiday" more loosely as a synonym for break.
