Well about a few months ago I left school and decided to go to college. So I started browsing through what courses there was, expecting to end up lamding a joinery course or something. Thats when I noticed a 'Games Development' course, and I was straight in there. So I go for the interview and the guy explains the course in a little bit more detail. The first year, I was told, would consist of getting to know your way around 2D (3D later on) graphic packages and some flash, java and C++. Sounded just what I was looking for, so I signed up for it. I was mainly interested in the coding and graphics parts of the course. The way I see it is I will end up practising it here at home, so I might as well go to college and learn it. Plus I get paid for going, which is an extra bonus ;) Well I started the course about 3 weeks ago now, and so far we havent really covered anything to do with 'Games Programming'. Some Photoshop work is about the closest we have come, but other than that the course includes a load of rubbish such as "Spreadsheets". And just to top it all off, there is a rule in the college stating that you are not allowed to play games or chat online whilst in class. It really blows, I reckon I will have to wait another 6-8 weeks before we eve start the good stuff. Has anyone here ever signed up for a course or job that they thought would be good, but it turned out to really suck? |
