You never played Street Rod or Street Rod 2? Back when VGA was god like Street Rod was king. You basically sat in a garage fixing up your car, then went cruising down the local Burger joint too find people to race against.
Then you drag raced them for money so you could buy new cars. It was set in the early 60's.
A extremely sweet game in its day. I'll try and find a copy for you since it was freeware I'll post a link.

Here, you can get both of them. Apparently they made a third one, now I'll have to find that too...

Well...lots of games don't offer customiziation, like Def Jam vendetta thats considered the best ps2 westler and doesn't have any Create-a-Wrestler feature...

Yeah but if it did let you make a wrestler wouldn't that be better :P?

Yess.. well thats what the police said.. Then I hit them in the face with a bar I pried off a park bench and ran away screaming to the sounds of "I feel pretty".. True it wasnt the best idea I've had, but it sure did help from there on to keep the cops on thier toes :P

Nah. From what I can remember its just point and click when your inside the garage. Then the arrow keys to steer. I cant remember what the gear buttons are.
Im pretty sure up+space will move you up a gear, then space alone will take you down a gear. In the garage just experiment with what you can click on. A little line of text will appear when your mouse is over something that you can investigate.

Short walkthrough:
Start off by filling in your lisence, then you start off in your garage. Click on the newspaper on the floor, then the picture of a car.
Now you should select a cheap car and buy it. Now there should be something in the garage that will give you a 'readout' of the car. Telling you basically what parts it has and how worn out they are.
If anything is too worn out, or your pertrol is too low replace them straight away. If not then just upgrade the parts.
To do that you just got to the newspaper again and click on the sparkplug. Look mainly for the cheaper parts, and make sure that the parts are compatable with your car.
Now youve got a semi-decent car click on the lawn (You should be able to see it next just outside the garage). You'll go cruising for a moment then end up at the local burger joint. People will drive up too you and give you a choice of races you can do against them.
Decide the race, decide how much your going to bet (Remember, if you keep whipping a guy he'll know better then too race you in a $500 race), or tell him to keep driving.
If you race him its best to start out on the drag races for a small money (Just for kicks ends up costing you even if you win since your car sometimes gets damaged).
The races are pretty easy, its the only real downfall.
It depends a lot on the game... in some it makes a lot more sense than others. But even if customization is something as simple as just choosing your own costume in the game, it can add a new level of enjoyment. There's really no reason not to like it, unless you're the person who has to program it!

Why do all the warriors wear speedos?
In response to digitalmouse
At least they get the satisfation of not all wearing the SAME speedos.
In response to digitalmouse
Maz obviously hasn't got around to programming clothes in. Maybe... he doesn't WANT to put clothes in... =P

An interesting sidenote: As Spuzzum mentioned on the Bwicki, choosing flesh coloured speedos may eventually be a bannable offence.

O_O

Those are GFX ripped from a single player RPG I played once LONG ago... (Wasn't too much fun though).

Where'd ya get that huh? I'm gonna try looking that game up, just for the novelty of it!
In response to Xylpher
Xylpher,

those are not -ripped- as such. The game Maz, Jon88, and me are working on is Castle of the Winds Online, the -officially sanctioned- version of the classic Castle of the Winds game you are talking about. If the author allows it, it isn't ripping. ;-)

But yes, it is a fun game, and I recommend you picking it up again to spend the time until you can join others in multicoloured speedos in the multiplayer version! :-)
