Weeeeeeeee... well heres a good question to all you civilized (O.o) gamers out there.. Is customization in a game great or what!? I mean, think about it.. I'm not much of a WWE wrestling fan, but I still buy those games just because I can customize EVERYTHING and go on my own storyline! Its great... I think you can really connect with a game's storyline if you can customize a character/choose yer own path.. I think thats why such BYOND games as Zeta were so popular... they had customization! Well gimme yer thoughts on this stuff peeps.. fer I am working on a Manerk Masterpiece... and no.. its not gonna be a chicken hunt.. (Gets chased out by a bunch of gnomes with sporks screaming)

Depends on the game. I dont like it in Wrestling games that much. I prefere too go through playing with actual characters. Most Wrestling games have pretty weak custom character systems.
They just have a big bucket of body parts you use to make a funny looking guy, then give him the exact same animations/moves as one of the pre-made characters. In BYOND games it often takes away from the actual game. You end up with an insane level of customization and next to nothing else. Also in multiplayer games it doesnt seem to work too well. You usually end up with one or two really popular designs that everyone chooses. Customizing your appearance too match the items your equipped with is great though. Unless its a real power gamer environment with a lot of PKing, then it can suck. It canbe good, it can be bad, but unless the game is about looking pretty I would never call it the key too greatness. |

Heh. Wolf I did that already but I never uploaded it. A bunch of different coloured and aged gnomes run around a screen full of sun flowers and you shoot them. Some shatter, some loose their hat. It's pretty funny to play but I got bored of making it.

I've thought about this for a long time and I believe customization is a thing that makes great games. For example... A seris for ps and ps2 Armored Core. My buddy and I love this game because we can choose anything to put on our mechs. Some times I take Tank legs and load up on heavy guns or sometimes I make extremely weak mechs for sword battles who are quick and light.
It's not true what one of you guys said about customization. Infantry :www.infantryzone.com is great because you can choose from different classes and load up with anykind of weapons you choose. Sure there has to be a limit on customization because In that game it would be hell to have a infiltrator running around with a RPG. So only the larger classes can take those. So anyways I believe customization is what gives a player the feel of uniqueness in a game. Everquest wouldn't be where it was today if you couldn't select classes, weapons, and skins. |

I agree with what Unowuero wrote.
Customization can add stragety to any game. Look at the new Mortal Combat game which I hate very much. How ever they add diffrent fighting stances which are customizations adding more stragety to the game. Not only that but Customization can let you be who you are and not a plot to the storyline. Now the thing with skins hmmm I might need to make a vb program that does this for my RPG might be cool. |

I don't think customization makes a great game, no. The game has to be great on its own before customizing it does any good. A lousy game that lets you customize it is still just a lousy customizable game, no matter how customized the lousy game can get. But, if you can come up with a great game to begin with, then making it customizable is quite certain to increase its lifespan.

I don't see what Ensya has to do with it. Ensya was neither great, nor customizable.

AC was a sweet sweet game. Although it should have a good system, most of the game was set in the garage, tweaking your shortie, getting new parts, redoing the badges for your arm.
It was like that old Street Rod game, but with giant robots who fight instead of old cars that drag race. |
Well...lots of games don't offer customiziation, like Def Jam vendetta thats considered the best ps2 westler and doesn't have any Create-a-Wrestler feature...
