As Maeva gets larger and more complex, I'm trying to find more effective ways of hosting it. I just wanted to hear from some people who have hosted their worlds in both Windows and Linux and what advantages and drawbacks there were to both. Thank you.
Linux is supposed to be better at handling memory and resources then Windoze. This usually means that it can have a much better up-time and also wont slow down as much.

That's what I figured, I'm planning on running some large scale tests soon. I could probably get a reasonable server going in Windoze (as you call it) with some fancy coding and shaving off some features, so Linux should hopefully do the trick for me. Any more input would be very much appreciated though.

If you go the windows route, I'd recommend using Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server. It's the most stable Windows platform at the moment, and it's security, memory management, etc, is roughly on par with Unix/Linux. Unix/Linux pulls ahead in that you can actually program Linux to do EXACTLY what you want.

I recommend linux. With windows I don't get very well responses with FF-THG.It lags quite a bit.Windows uses memory drastically.

Also keep in mind that your BYOND game needs to be well debugged... even under my Linux server, Hedgerow Hall goes gaa-gaa after about 150-200 hours (only 48 hours under Windows) for some strange reason. It starts eating up processor cycles like there's no tomorrow. Often I see HrH using 90% of the processor resources after about a week...

So game proofing is a must, unless we know for sure that DreamDaemon has issues/problems...
