Do you know what would be the best to host games with?

It shouldn't really matter.

Ok. I don't know what to try hehe. Red Hat or Debian. What is easier to install Byond and others on?

They're both Linux, sheesh!

In other words; just pick one. =) I've only tried RedHat, and it worked for me, so I'll probably be sticking with it until it fails to work.

They're both Linux but very different. All Linux distros are different in some way. I'm trying Red Hat 9 though =P 250 packages to go :-).

I've decided to go with Ark Linux...says it's really easy for new comers to Linux...and it's only 250 mbs, instead of 650...

I never heard of it. I'm not really new to Linux either. I first started off with Mandrake (bought it a Wal Mart for my 13 birthday present :-P). Red Hat and Mandrake are pretty easy to iinstall too. Just go through the questions it asks you and its up.

I am having problems and was wondering if anybody can help me. I installed Red Hat and got it working fine. I installed Byond, installed great. I run DreamDaemon, I get this error:
DreamDaemon: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3:cannonr open shared object file: No suck file or directory

I edited the Makefile to let me host. Uncommented the certain things. Am i forgeting anything?

Thanks

ARGG! I don't think my comp can boot from a CD, "Invalid System Disk..."
Then I try to run this app that lets you....same thing...I'll try and go with a well known one now, or maybe stick with Win98...

Or... use v 6 of redhat linux. It's a standard 1.44 floppy disk to install.

So, anybody know the answer? Lol.

Mandrake had a pretty good setup for a game distribution of Linux - focused on graphic-card and joystick/controller support. But it is possible that Mandrake 9.1 has all of that now...

But if you can get WineX - an emulator for playing Windows games - then most any modern distro should do.

I would need X Window for WineX huh? How can I install the packages after I already installed Red Hat?

Standard Graphical interfaces such as KDE or Gnome are already installed for you if you chose a standard desktop install option, so you don't have to fiddle with X-Window stuff.. X-Windows is just the underlying driver programs that GUIs use to draw graphics on the screen - you'll never need to mess with it directly in modern Linuxes, unless you got a *really* screwy or off-the-wall video card/montir combo... and even so, there are usually tutorials about in on various Linus websites.

Just go http://www.transgaming.com/ - you may have to subscribe to get the pre-packaged binaries, but i think the CVS tree (where you get the source code and compile it yourself) is still free...

Ok. So should I reinstall Linux? Or is there a way to just install X Windows?

~Blaz3
In response to Blaz3
probably safer and easier to just re-install then trying to find all the bits and pieces of X. Modern distros get all the right bits for your card and monitor usually.

Check that out, its a topic posted on Mircrosoft vs. Linux - beware, bad grammar and a few cuss words are in there but not enough to worry about, that should answer most of your questions.
