No one knows, its lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right time to come out.

The majority of the community though, are in the shadows to what will and wont be within the new version of BYOND, as for those specific people in mind who know, are very trusted people and in general friends of Dan and Tom. Anyhow, I wont name the people who know, I don't know myself every person who will know about BYOND 4.0, but I know a few of those people. If these people wish to let you know who they are, they will say so themselves, but, you will more likely going to find out that they wont tell you. -- Or the community for that matter, until the release is out. (At least that is what I think may happen, not "what" will happen :P) --Lee |

I hope the next version is the 4.0 release... I hope it has full screen, and better online management. I hate that it generates communication for every little thing! Slows the entire world down...
Fullscreen and keyboard support are all I need to get sarted on some of the coller projects that are currently impossible. I also hope they fix the text mode so that they fit into an 8X16 bounding box, it would look much nicer. |

I would like to see the same things but something more.
A nice chatarea at the bottom of your screen to make chatting nicer and better. And a way to display text and numbers on the screen without a dmi file for each letter or number. Also some way to make cool menu's (not a list or a alert box with a oke and cancel button.) A well, we will see what whill happen. I (BTW) think that the update won't be here very soon. |

the font would itself be the same size, but it would not have the extra area left over.

YOu can already make cool menus, you just have to have some knowledge of how to make clickable screen_objects.
That's not what you are talking about, but I have found these to be easy to use, and a lot of fun. I just can't wait for full keyboard support, you won't need menus anymore. You just hit enter, type in a command, and then hit enter again, that simple. OR for a limited Game, you hit a key, and go from there. |

Maybe the width could be an option. I prefer to use spaces as the text and just change the background color, and I think that looks nicer with the current tile size. However, if you just prefer to use text then it would probably look better with smaller tiles.

Or at least the ability to create directions, or animations inside a icon-state, for example
Icon Icon_State North East West South Customattackinganim Magicuse And so on, also the ability to change sprites sizes. |

Yeah, an icon resize command really would be swell. =D

I want (at least close to) full screen capability. (smoother atom movement would be nice, too)

um you can already have keyboad stuff in byond, its called marcos, which you can just set in ur games script file

He said full keyboard support. There are some keys that you can't set macros to.

Would this help? =)
Better keyboard support is needed, though. Dantom are aware of that fact, I'm not sure how far BYOND 4.0 will go in this regard. |

when is there coming a new version of byond? There will be a new version of BYOND whenever poor Tom gets up enough guts to delve into the BYOND code long enough to finish it. But he's also got a lot of other things to be managing at the moment, like keeping himself from going bankrupt, so don't hold your breath (especially since it was *supposed* to be out LAST year). What features will it have? Well to sum it up it will have a whole bunch more control over the interface. Aside from that, I don't think anyone knows except Tom, and maybe the contents of a specific bag in Nadrew's basement. |

Heh, many things need to be improved, but i think mostly the lag issues need to be considered. |

Lag issue meaning we need more client side operations.
