Greetings everyone.

I have a question - Does anyone know of any pretty decent computers that I could buy that are or below $800? (I'm not talking about custom-made computers or build-your-own computers, but ones made by offical computer manufacturers.) Basically, I want a computer that can run Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, and Quake III with ease. Thanks.

ebay
Thats all I know, sorry :-/

I don't trust eBay one bit... =/ I was thinking more of the lines of Dell, HP, Sony, etc.

I dont think you could get one to play those games good, cause to play online you need a good uhh video thingy, otherwhys it lags to hell, but you could probly buy a second hand computer then just upgrade the parts you need to run your games for under 800$ or a bit over.. hehe
I've got a 733hmz Hewlett Packard a year and a half ago for around $450 (along with a special internet-signup deal to reduce the price). You might consider looking for some special deals like that at computer stores to see if there's anything you could go for. This computer's the best one I've had so far.

Check out the game magazines...Computer Games, and PC Games (I think it's called -- there are a bunch of PC mags with basically the same name, though the one I get is much better than the others), they tend to do coverage every month of good cheap machines that can play games. Even new you should be able to get a good one for $800 or less these days.

I tend to end up paying closer to $3k for my computers, but that's because I try to get the best possible machine I can and then keep it for 4 or 5 years.
Go look at the dell website, they had a cheaper model for 700 or 800 if I recall.

look at dell computers - they had a decent package deal with monitor for under $700 I had seen.

I believe thats the same one I just mentioned in the post you replied to =p

you might end up looking into a custom made pc...if you plan to save money and get just the stuff you want. i'd personally suggest the new gforce from nividia as a graphics
proccessor.

I wouldn't. =) ATi Radeons all the way!

From memory, the GeForce FX series is more expensive, worse performing, bigger (that cooling system on the higher-end ones is WAY too big! I heard it takes up 2 PCI slots, just because it protudes out over them), and noisier (because of the chunky cooling fan).

Apparently the FX 5600 is quite decent, but anything else just isn't worth it. Get a Radeon. =)

Is that Aussie or US dollars? =) Not a bad deal, either way.

Graphics card, brand new. Computer, about 1 year old, still working like a charm though.
A 3 year old computer can run Half-Life, so why is it on your list? Unless you mean Half-Life 2.[EDIT] Well, actually if you want help for running these games and you have mIRC, then join GamesNET East and #clanfoe, talk to this guy named Wildfire and he'll probably grab you a good deal, or give you some specific names to look up for your PC.

Well, I mean Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, Quake III Arena, and MAYBE Unreal Tournament 2003. But I'll try and talk to this 'Wildfire' fellow.
