Just back from my first day of school, and i've forgotten a bunch of stuff. Anyway i got a question which tell's me to find the Area of this shape. I've did it out in adobe photoshop and have added square's so i can find the answer, which is "36" but i want to find the answer without drawings squares in the inside. Can anyone help? Here is the link.

You don't need to break down the interior into a grid. What you have to do is draw an imaginary line from the concave corner (the one that's "cut in") to one of the other sides, so you split the figure into two rectangles. The width and height of each rectangle should be easy to figure out from there, and then for each you just have to multiply width by height. Then add their areas together.

An alternative approach is to take the area of the larger rectangle from which a corner has been cut, then subtract the area of the corner that was cut out.
