Who is your byond hero? I've been thinking about this for a long time(Don't ask me why). And I came up with an answer, but I won't tell you unless you tell me yours =D.

I'll give you a hint though, he begins with an S =D
Me. I am God, after all. Who else do I have to admire?
Instead of one singular hero, I have a list of my 5 most respected BYONDers!
They are:
1.Raekwon
2.Airjoe
3.Wall04
4.Wanabe
5.Jon88

(I actually have a top 10, but I am only giving top 5 :P )

Sorry if anyone thinks they should be on here, and aren't. They are probably on 6 - 10, either that, or I have never been MAJORLY helped by them, or i forgot!

~GokuSS4Neo~

P.s. Garthor, your number 6. You would be higher, but your anti-dbz posts that make no sense and include "11!!!111one!!11" have put you down!

Spuzzum?

I don't think I have a BYOND hero, though...

I respect a lot of the members of the community, and I admire all of the amazing talent around here, but I wouldn't call any single person my "hero"...

I suppose I'd have to give the title to Dan and Tom...lol

Damn, how did you know it was Spuzzum @.@ Well atleast he knows now =p. But how did you even guess? (I gotta get his mind reader...)

Spuzzum is everyone's hero! :oD

Just like Wolverine, in fact. Hey, they even come from the same country! Wait a minute... *assembles a 6-page conspiracy theory which can be summarised to: Spuzzum=Wolverine* Now to show the world that the "magic small-village-called-Spuzzum" theory is totally bogus!

It was a fairly simple process of elimination...

First, your clue was that it began with the letter S... There's a relatively short list of people on BYOND that I know of that have a key that begins in S... And it's an even smaller list of regular forum posters, which I assume your hero must be limited to (the non-developer players aren't usually people to look up to...lol)

Sariat
Scoobert
Stealth 2K
SuperSaiyanGokuX
Spuzzum
Shadowdarke
SilkWizard

And that's about it... I'm sure there are more that I'm neglecting to mention, but this list is sufficient...

Out of that list, there are really only two (maybe three) good possibilities...

Spuzzum
Shadowdarke
SilkWizard (this is the maybe)

I only count Silk as a maybe because while DWO is one of the most popular games on BYOND, I don't really see him giving out much help on the forums (which is a quality that I assume your hero would have... someone who has either helped you with a code problem, or has given you a tool to use in your projects) So anyways, I'm going to take him out of the candidates because of this...

Shadowdarke is a likely suspect, since he's done quite a bit of really nice library work, along with a fair share of giving out forum answers, but I don't see him as being a "conspicuous" enough member of the community... He's not very vocal around here, so most people are not likely to know him well enough to consider him their "hero"...

And that leaves Spuzzum as the most likely suspect... He's a regular presence on the forums, (giving out answers, help, and suggestions to a good degree) he's got quite a few nice libraries (especially for beginners) on the hub, and he's highly talented (not that the others aren't, of course)...

So, there ya go! It wasn't just a random guess... It wasn't some form of mind reading... It was a simple logical deduction...

Of course, I didn't really go through each of those steps in that detail... I just ran through the list of known S names around here, and picked the one I thought was the most likely... Those evaluations were all done almost subconsciously...

I prefer simpler logic: Everyone likes Spuzzum.

No way he stole my get_circle() code way back in the day!

I'd have to say Lummox JR. He's been way more than helpful to me in the past, and he's very educated.

My BYOND hero is that little atom at the top of the screen in the center of the BYOND logo... That thing saved me from an out of control "Find()" procedure the other day.

~; ){en )3ishop ;~

P.S: If you actually consider anyone on BYOND a hero it's about time to throw your computer out the window and experience the real world.
Well, I don't look up to anybody online...(why would you?). So, i'll just say Mr. Crago, cause he has blown me away with his damn programming skills. He used to suck @$$ more than I, but now he's like ********** and i'm like *****

I wouldn't say that I have a "hero" in the BYOND community, with the exception of the almighty Dan and Tom. The word 'hero' isn't really adequate in this kind of situation. Younger children usually have people they hold as a definitive hero, but as one grows older you begin to see that no human being could possibly hold enough stereotypical heroic characteristics to be called a 'hero'.

However, there are some BYONDers that I do admire.

I respect...

  • ...Lummox JR, for his knowledge and maturity. I don't particularly like him, but he certainly has my respect.
  • ...OneFishDown, for his sense of humour and programming knowledge.
  • ...Kunark, for his admirable dedication to his projects. Fenris' Apocalypse is a fairly long game, and he managed to stick with it and (finally) complete it. Not to mention the new game he's got a team working on.
  • ...Gughunter, for his dedication to the BYOND community (via BYONDscape) and his goofy sense of humour.
  • ...Deadron, for his numerous contributions to BYOND and maturity.
  • ...Alathon, for the passion of MUDs we both hold, as well as his friendliness. And let's not forget the numerous game design discussions over AIM. ;)

If you aren't on that list, don't fret, it's probably just because I don't know you very well. In any case I'd like to get to know some of you better, so drop me a line on AIM or something. (Veley032)

And later adapted it so as not to use the expensive ** operator. ;-)

Technically speaking, this is lumped in the "used-to" category. Now, my libraries are definitely taking a high-end advanced knowledge slant (see s_tracker (which should be ready this afternoon) for an example), and though I am still a regular user of the forum, most of what I contribute is in the form of ideas -- I haven't visited Newbie Central or Code Problems on a regular basis for a very long time.

In any case, I knew a long time ago that Buzzy considered me his hero, but I always thought of it as undeserved praise. After all, I'm a conceited jerk! =P

Interesting way to put it, Branks..

~Camaro~>

I don't have a 'role model'... The thought of having a role model online makes me laugh 8D.

But I do think Canar (Cadence) is one hell of a programmer.
I don't have a BYOND role model. When I was getting started it was Spuzzum, Deadron, and Gughunter... But now I make whatever I feel I, myself, would enjoy, and don't even really pay much attention to anyone else.

There are quite a few people I would like to show them I respect them much so, however, and I will give them a short phrase/word to tell them the main reason why, in no particular order:

  • Spuzzum: Encouragement
  • Deadron: Helpfulness
  • Gughunter: Humer/Determination
  • Shadowdarke and SSGX: The only 2 people that got me completely addicted to their great games, even with my odd tastes :)
  • Stealth 2k & Dragoon_Gunger: Only people I know that actually stayed on BYOND.
  • Garthor: Correcting me many, many times.
  • Volte, Crispy, & Maz: Great people to chat with in MazTekia!
  • Jon88, Malver, EzrahChan, AirJoe, Mellifluous, Dragon of Ice, & Dragoon_Gunger: Determination
  • OneFishDown: One funny guy, and one helluva great programmer.
  • Lummox JR: For having better programming skills than Kunark*3!
  • splattergnome: Humer, and great with randomness!

There are more of course but there you go.
