I'm 16 actually, but I guess depending on your point of view I could be called a kid *shrugs*, anyways, I have to agree... DEATH TO RIPS!!! They take hosting time and players away from the good games that BYONDers have worked hard on... I understand getting the Zeta code to use only as a guide but... using it just to take up space...

I'd have to agree in the sense that rip is the short version of rip off. I'd love to see more original content(ie not fan games) worth playing.

I don't see how they deprive my hosting time since I host stuff myself and they can't possibly control what I host. That and the players that play those games tend to be the type I wouldn't want in my game.

I understand getting the Zeta code to use only as a guide but... using it just to take up space...

I don't really mind people using other people's source code to build up thier own games as long as the original author doesn't mind. There are a lot of cool text MUDs build off of other MUDs source code and even commercial games tend to reuse the source code of previous games. There is nothing wrong with building your game off someone elses work as long as the original author doesn't mind.

Well, most newbies, they see all the DBZ games and either choose one at random to play or leave... MOST. Some see all the DBZ games and look for the other games, but there aren't many out there being hosted because most were player hosted and not hosted by the maker so... they leave usually. BYOND would definatly attract more people if the DBZ game population was cut down, at least, that's my view on it (this is my view after convincing a few people from school to look a BYOND)

I think that not all fan games are bad, it's just unpublished (I never even look in unpublished for games.) that has more then its fair share of 'Draggin Ball'z games. There is however quite a niche for some well made, well planned fan-games. Take DWO for example, a brilliant game that continues to improve to this day. I think people are waiting in anticipation for the final version which should be released this month. DWO bought in a few unwanted people to BYOND but I think it brought more useful people who help out.
This is what I hope for Castle Online.

Instead of taking someone else's code, I'm starting my whole game from scratch. Sure, I'm new to DM and problems pop out of every given situation, but it's so damn satisfying to see myself "Build MY OWN Net Dream". That satisfaction cannot come from altering some Zeta code.

Unfortunatly, some of the good fan games don't have as many people as they should... like DBEO, DWO...
of course I guess RaeKwon's Zeta and Mystic Journey are the current big names
