Right now I plan to use it for Not only Hosting games here on byond,(i have dsl already, just a slow computer) and play more online games, mainly FF11, and Halflife2 and all it's wonderfull mods that are to come in the future...
Also, I will be going to college soon, so I kind of want something that will still be reasonable equipment in 3-4 years. I know that even top of the line stuff now will only be mediocre in 3-4 years, but as long as i get something that is slightly above average now...Basically, I kind of know what i want, but If there is some Computer wiz's out there that would like to advise me before an ill-fated decision, let me know. Oh yes, one more thing... If Possible, i want to, within the next year or so, partition the HDD on this new computer to install linux for hosting games on byond mainly...I'm here for the long run! And i can gain experience with a new OS. I sometimes scare myself with curiosity. |
Personally, I'd probably choose ABS. But that's just me, and it also depends on which components you choose.

Get a company that will let you customize your pc, or you should make your own. I suggest getting a Geforce 4 FX card with a 2.2ghz processor and 512mb of pc 2700 DDR RAM if you want to be able to play FF11 and Half-Life 2(Well you can have lower for the games, but you wont get to enjoy it as much.), oh and a 40GB+ HD. Unforunately, I'm stuck with a Geforce 2 MX, p4 1.6ghz processor, and 384mb of pc2100 DDR RAM and a 20GB HD for the next 3 years, meaning no quality gaming for me. Thena again, thats only if you can afford all this.

Dell on the other hand is a general perpose computer. and comes with a lot of preloaded software. it's good for anything. and usely will be a better bang for the buck. but it will not be comstomable at all, and dell likes useing there own hardware.
so, the big question is, what do you want it for? and are you planing to update it a lot down the road.
