Does anyone here like starcraft? I know I do. It's too bad there's never been any games like it made here on byond (that I know of).
Is there anyone here that wishes there was a game like starcraft on byond?

Starcraft is goooood. Pity I suck at it. =P
Good RTS games are hard to make on BYOND, mainly due to the frame rate limitation and interface issues. Malver's RTS, Clash, was the best out of all the RTS games I've seen on BYOND, but even it has serious lag and interface issues (unless the lag was just because of the connection). =P |

I like Starcraft, but I prefer Emperor: Battle for Dune Yeah Emperor: Battle for Dune is an excellent stratagy game. I wonder why it was never really popular :P. For the single player campaigns I think Westwood does a better job than Blizzard, but multiplayer wise the Blizzard and Ensemble Studio games are usually balanced better. |

Classic RPG in my view, I used to play that online quite a lot. Same with Starcraft.

Personally I still liked Emperor while on multiplayer (though I can't figure out how people build so fast), but I did also enjoy the little scenario creator for Starcraft.

Not nitros oxide, and the street slang for it I believe is Nos anyways.

I thought I already did, during those beta testing sessions. =)

Actually it has two street slangs, Nox and Nos, it depends in which area of which country you live in.

I like starcraft!
For anyone that plays on battle.net, my username is "picone" (without the quotes). I suck majorly and would like some help if we have any experts reading this. I play Protoss. |

I think, given a decent amount of effort, a RTS like Starcraft could be developed with the tools provided in BYOND. Ya just gotta work it, and do the best to optimize your game routines to keep lag down. Hosting on a fast server doesn't hurt either.
Speaking of: if someone can create a game similar to Starcraft (even a direct rip, if used as a "proof-of-concept" that RTS's *can* be done well), I'll gladly host it for free for one month on the digitalBYOND servers once I get this $%! DSL account going again. (very soon I am promised) So far the only thing close that I know of is Hedgemistress's BlackBall Line. |
Starcraft is probably the best RTS ever made. Definitly one of my favorite computer games, and it's in my top 10 of all games.

I don't think Starcraft would be next to impossible. I could see pulling off a Warcraft I level RTS with a lot of work, if you slowed down the actual game speed.
That way the lag could be spread, and the game would be easier to play. I think the key to a RTS in BYOND is realising the limits, then working with them, rather then depending on optimization to make things work. |
