I've been wanting to create an original game. But i'm out of ideas. So i ask of you guys to just submit some ideas of games you'd like to see on byond.

Make a good, simple game. Make a tag game! A maze game!
|
what i like to see is all professional byond coders making a 3D rpg game using the OFD's engine. that will probably become the best game ever on BYOND if that can be accomplished.
|
Thats not possible. OFD's engine can not be used multiplayer, And hes taking that source to the grave with him.

Or make a game that doesnt stink... Anywho, not bad ideas, but overdone. How about a puzzle game, or a card game. I find that the hardest games to make are those that arnt RPG or at least your standard "game". If all else fails, make a demo. OpenRPG is still a current project of mine, the bwicki page (search for scoobertgames) says some systems for stuff i need.

WildBlood kinda has that corner covered with IronDogs. Not to mention Clash, which borrows more elements of the Command & Conquer series. |

I wouldn't classify other people's ideas original. I suggest going to your public library and researching random stuff, ideas will start popping in your head, guaranteed! RaeKwon |
Personally, I would LOVE to see more real-time strategy games. I absolutely adore them. I would also like to see a good CCG game. I would be willing to pay money for *good* CCG cards, to play a functional, fun, practical, and broad game online with others.

How does the view of the game affect how good it is :P? Aren't gameplay mechanics more important rather than how the information is displayed? The only issue is that if you display your game information too poorly it can damage how fun the game is but having it great certainly won't improve how fun the game is. |

but having it great certainly won't improve how fun the game is. I'm not really sure how valid that statement is. ;) I played Diablo 2 like a madman for months, then one day I woke up and hated the game. (Keep in mind I ran this on my old 433mhz computer that I am using now.) One day, many months later, I went to my cousin's house. He had Diablo 2 with expansion, and his computer was set to display graphics in perspective mode, which requires a 3D card and renders the graphics with an immensely 3D feel. I played a level 1 sorcerer for about an hour and a half just because it was uh.. fun, to run around and see the graphics displayed as they were. At any rate, BYOND doesn't have any cool 3D card features, so Theodis' point still stands. ;) (Edit) As another note, I would rather play a 2D game that runs smoothly and quickly on my computer, than trying to struggle through a 3D game bogged down with efficiency problems. ~Polatrite~ |
Doom was a great game. I can't imagine it being as good if it was a sidescroller, or had a bird's eye view. However, there are games that would be just as good (or even better) with a bird's eye view than a first-person view. The perspective can make a difference to the game. For example, in a racing game, with a view of 21 by 21 even, it might be hard to see upcoming turns. With a first person view, you may be able to see much farther ahead. It makes some difference, but it would rarely ever be the difference between a good game and a bad game.
However, there is not a great difference between the default BYOND view and the view in TRN. You're just looking at the map from an angle. Also, TRN does work for multiplayer, sort of. There is nothing in the mechanics of it that would make multiplayer impossible, except speed issues. The multiplayer test of version 2 fared much better than version 1, but I'm still not satisfied with it enough to say it'd be practical for multiplayer games. |
