You know, i really don't care if yor going to try to correct my terms, i like them and i will continue to use them even if they aren't in the dictionary, or they aren't proper.
Its not like it makes me stupid just because i like calling making maps mapping and making icons iconing, and people that do it iconists. |

"Mapping" I can live with, but iconing? Iconists? Arrrrgh. Why invent silly made-up words when there are already perfectly serviceable words like "drawing" and "artists"? =P

Why get hung up over an evolving language? :D Many of the words in the english language were made up at some point.
Personally, I think that iconing and iconist work just fine. My fiance is an artist, but she can't draw icons at all. Pixel art is definately something different than pen/ink sketches, or even most mainstream drawing programs (aside from drawing big, then resizing and resampling). |

Because you draw with your hand, not with a mouse. They are icons, why can't there be a term for people who do it, or what someone is doing?
I think it makes perfect sense, And yes there is an "Icon artist" but why don't you just say iconist?. exactly ^^;... |

Thats exactly how i was trying to pass my point.
Look at todays insults and retarded rap words, "fizshinizzle yo shnizmizizzle" was made up but no one was bitching, they were just spreading it on (Sadly enough its true..). Gay use to mean it was great and happy, now it means you like it ...that way..etc. -.-; There isn't really much sense of complaining about it, i think they fit well! |

Eh... you're both right, I guess, but I still don't like it. =P "Pixel artist" would probably be my preferred term.

I wasn't even going to bother responding to that... If I don't like "iconist", why would "pixelist" be any better? =P

When you draw "with your hand" you're probably using a pen or pencil, so why couldn't you draw with a mouse? You click the mouse buttons to make an icon, so could you also call someone who makes icons a "clicker"? If you say "iconer" or "iconist", people will know what you mean, usually. The words have different connotations; "artist" sounds better than "iconer".
