I really wish people would stop it with these stupid, pointless, non-BYOND related threads. And stop disparaging the name of hacker! **grumbles about the media and their need for excitement and lack of need for correctness**

BYOND is not the internet... we do not, and can not police what people do with an internet connection, including sending trojans or worms or remotely accessing things on your computer. Feel free to report BYOND-specific offenses, abuses, or destructive programs (trying to threaten someone into changing their BYOND hub entry is kind of a grey area, I'll let the hub moderators make that call), but be advised that chat transcripts like this do not help (and in fact, violate the community standards when they include inappropriate language), and neither transcripts nor screen shots constitute proof of anything.
Good advice for anyone: make sure you have a decent antivirus and firewall, and any critical security updates from Microsoft. | |
Trojans on linux are just as bad, or worse, as trojans on windows. Be afraid of the root-kit. Although an out-of-the-box linux install of a standard distribution will probably be more secure than windows, you have to be careful what you install afterwards, and configure. It's easier to make configuration messups in linux, than in windows, which has a nice installshield installer do most of it for you.

What you are saying is good, with a couple of caviats: - Transcripts can be helpful, when we can check other data to back up the claims (that happened just today). - Soon this stuff should go to [email protected], but for a short period it is actually more effective to post them here.
