Actually if you had 20 individual banners, then someone payed for an extra, it would be 2 of 21.

Ie, on your system I'd pay for a 1 in 20 chance, but as soon as someone else pays for an extra slot my chance goes to 1 in 21. |

The problem with that is you have to kick customers out if someone payed for an extra slot. You would lose money.

I know the chance thing wont work because if someone pays for 1 spot and someone ealse pays for 15 spots the 1 spot one will probaly never get there banner up on the website.

Your not looking at it correctly. Person A with one spot would have equal chance if there were 15 other Persons or one Person with 15 slots.

oooooo I see. The problem still is that people wouldnt want that deal because its random and maybe there banner only goes up once. Then I have people up my ass saying I ripped them off.

Yeah but the problem with an hourly rotation is that people get crappy time slots.
Say I paid for an hour and you gave me 8 AM through 9 AM, I'd feel pretty jipped. You could make it cheaper for non-prime time, but that's still a not so great answer. Personally, I'd just let one banner be up constantly. |

Im starting to think that is should just make it that once they pay the banner stays all week or all month.

Most advertisers work on a system of click-throughs -- people only pay if people click on their ad. Advertisers don't just want to show something, they want lots of people to see it and react to it.

Also, although I'm not familiar with this sort of stuff (banner programs) it doesn't seem like per hour is the right unit.
Maybe you should do a random banner display, but have it so that paying extra gets you an extra position in the random list.
Ie, you have it set up to choose one of twenty banners each time the page is viewed. $10 will get you 1 spot in the list (a 1 in 20 change of it appearing), while $15 will get you 2 spots in the list (a 2 in 20 chance).
