They should change that cause even good coders go there for help not all coders are newbies....

That has been requested many times, and I agree. I post there once in a while, and I came in year 2001. I'm also an experienced coder, so yeah I think they should add a category instead. Not sure about the title though, but it should be category involving oldbies needing help.

There has been quite a bit of controversy about it's name, but not quite because of that. It is fine to call them newbies who post for help within it, for they accept the title if they post within it... However, it sometimes confuses people what is a newbie question and what is a code problems question.

My answer to this was that they should name Code Problems, "Advanced Code Problems" and newbie central, "Begginer Code Problems" and a vague line set to what is a begginer problem or an advanced problem.

If I remember correctly, Newbie Central is named what it is so that it's blindingly obvious to newbies where they should post.

Generally, programming related questions that don't have any code written yet could go into either Newbie Central(ex: How would I do this?) or Design Philosophy(ex: What's the best way to do this? Method A or method B?).

Code Problems is for problems with actual existing code: runtime errors, compile errors, code mysteriously not working, etc.

Even the best programmer can ask a newbie question. The fact of the matter is that if you need to ask a question in Newbie Centeral it probably is a newbie question.
That isn't bad or anything. I think I've used NC for all my problems. I would rather be asking a newbie question in NC then not be able to figure out what's going wrong with my own program in CP.

Anyway, I prefere the name Newbie Centeral because it's blindingly obvious that's where you should be asking beginner questions, and considering how first time programmers/kids use BYOND that's a must.

Trouble is, BYOND has a forum for asking basic programming questions, and a forum for getting programming help. It does not have a forum for asking advanced programming questions. If you ask an advanced question in Newbie Central, it feels silly, and if you ask it in Code Problems, its not a code problem, so it doesn't feel right.

Mostly I think the trouble is that BYOND forums have evolved an unintended set of rules, such as Code Problems being "only for problems that involve actual code". If Code Problems were generalized, it should involve anything that involves programming that you have a problem with! If I want to program something, and I don't know how, that's a problem.

Well I think Design Philosophy is not only for game design philosophy but also for programming design philosophy. So if you have a programming problem that's complex with no code you post there.

Yeah, I think it was brought up a while back in Chatters or something that Design Philosophy includes Programming Philosophy and Game Design Philosophy.

From what I understand,

Newbie Central is where you find out how to do something, or what something is.

Code Problems is if you have problems with your code :-P Such as errors.

Hmm...

There is no set guidelines for it, but that would be a great way to get newbies etc. to post in the right places if it were the guideline.

There are so.
