Wave files can actually be played on multiple channels. Look up sound() in the reference, you *can* play more than one sound at a time. (excluding .mid/.midi)

it was my understanding that mp3 decoding is not licensed...just the .mp3s themselves... so why would dantom be liable... only the user distributing the mp3.. which requires 3000+ or more distributions before a license is ever needed.

Nope, the use of MP3 support in your program requires a license if the program is commerical.

Nadrew, I've tried before. I wouldn't be asking this if I didn't try. I've tried every possible way.

untrue... It's the programmer who needs to worry about the licences. I am a hobbiest programmer and I use DarkBASIC as well as BYOND and there is MP3 support in DarkBASIC and they do not pay royalties for it.. It's the programmer's responsibility if he chooses to use mp3s in his creations. And to prove this download the demo.. and any demos released by the creators of DB and you will see not one mp3 available or used in any of their demos. They do not wish to pay royalties when they do not have to. However mp3 support is there..
I think it's silly for BYOND to have mp3 support however, like it was stated before, there's just not a necessity or a desire from a good portion of this community. |

Now if Byond could do a sorta update thing like on professional game where you would start up the game and all it would do is update new files w/e and not have to d/l all the rsc again and again that would be cool!
