I am deciding on a new computer and i am probably going to buy it in about 5-6 days, I have already chosen some specs, here is a list.
Soltek SL-75FRN2-L Motherboard
AMD ATHLON XP2600
ATX Miditower Case - Black, 350W PSU, Front USB Ports
Seagate 80GB IDE HDD - ATA100, 7200RPM, 3-year warranty
512 ram512M PC3200 DDR RAM Kingmax/Kingston
fx5900XT albatron
By the way, with that configuration, i can play Call of Duty at 150fps.
And the soltek motherboard looks gold!

I know pcs that have geforce mx 440s that run farcry on high, i dont have enough money to buy the best system, but this setup should run everything.
You dont need a super computer to run games like Farcry, my 1.2ghz runs it. And i already have a 120 gig HDD, im just getting a new 80 gig HDD. |
I'd rather buy all of the components for the computer and build it myself. You can build a top of the line computer for under 1000 dollars. Sure beats any pre-made computer.

Its the other way around, P4's are better for stable systems, but AMD's are better for gaming peformance.
|
That's a myth. An Athlon 2600 is clocked lower than a 2.6GHz Pentium, yes, but it runs at the same speed (or faster). Plus AMD is cheaper. I'd go with AMD any day over the expensive Pentium 4s.
|
i go with pentiums, becuase the more speed u have the faster the games will work (on games with large files), from personal experience Pentiums are alot better
|
Fomr personal experienece, pentiums last longer, but have lower peformance, my friend has one, and it always seems to be really slow, even though its a 2.4. It might be virus's or spyware though.

So I guess we're even. *sees a CPU flame war on the horizon* Quick, everyone stop posting! =P |

Seagate is expensive for its warranty and quality. I would suggest Seagate simply because if your HD goes through a rut, you can always get it replaced within warranty, and besides, you could always save some important info and then "Ding" your HD a bit before the 3 year warranty goes, so you can get a brand new one that will most likely last a few years longer =).
|
Still, its TOO expensive.
I saw a 40HDD for 60 and an 80 (different brand) for 50. I would rather buy two 80 HDD then one 40, kind of makes sense doesn't it? |
Look at who uses AMD - Packard Bell, Advent (sometimes) and the other crappy people and all of these brands are owned by the same company but using a different name but look who uses Pentium - Dell, Advent (normally) and when u go for better performance of hardware advent is really good especially when they are using Pentium and your probly right so i suggest u sort ur mates out by using an up to date virus scanner and searching the net for a free spyware remover

Kungsai: If your seagate hard disk fails, like mine did, they send you a reconditioned one(already broken then fixed) which has a higher chance of failing, like the replacement one did.
WTS Gaming Enterprises: We arent talking about package deals, we are talking about custom built computers, most package deals give you crappy parts and not much flexablitly on what you can have. AMDs are the cheaper alternative, and are for gamers, not for apper's(don't know if this is a word). |
Everything else can be improved, atleast twice.
for example, the 2600 AMD is old. I have a 3000 AMD and thats still old compared to the newer P4's.
You can still add more ram, even though 512 seems like a lot, it isn't.
you can throw in a 160 GB 7200 RPM ultra DMA HDD, Seagate is expensive for no reason.
I can list more, but i don't think i should, i think you get the basic idea.
