Hey, My computer has lots of bugs and stuff. Is there a way to formatt my hard drive to where it deletes everything but windows and the defualt programs(paint,notepad,internet explorer, etc)? If so please tell me how.

Some systems ship with a restore disk that can return your harddriv exactly the way it was the day you bought it. If you don't have a restore disk, the only way to do what you ask is to format and reinstall Windows.

It's possible to do a "Repair installation" which is in ways similar to using the restore disks. Your OS gets reinstalled and reset to the defaults, but all your other files are left alone. If you do have your OS CD find out if you can do a repair install and give it a try first (If it works you won't have to back up any files you wish to keep). It will take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour (possibly longer depending on your computer specs).
You will have to reinstall software which makes changes to your registry however (most games, but again, saves and such will be left intact (unless they save to the registry which they really shouldn't do anyway)). If it doesn't work you can always do a restore from restore disks or format and reinstall. |
