Do you mean 1,250 mb of ram? 1 and 250GB of ram is 251GB of ram, which I doubt anyone has, in a personal computer anyway.

And, I don't even think a single commerical linux box can even handle that much. I've seen some with like 9GBs, but...250? O.O

The SGI Altix 3700 Supercluster comes with up to 256 processors, and up to 32 GB of memory per 4 processors. That works out to a maximum of 2 TB of memory on a single Linux system image. Though I'm not sure if it would qualify as a "single box." :)

:P Prices have dropped a lot sense he bought his too. Also, you have to know where to shop. Some sites have good deals, but others have great deals. I didnt mention that it didnt come with monitor or anything. Just the case and contents within.

Yeah, it looks like their specs page has a minor error with the 32 GB per 4-cpu module. A pdf elsewhere on the site says 64 GB, and the 4 TB figure (which I somehow missed) agrees with that. You gotta wonder how much those things cost. Several million easily, but how many? This press release talks about a couple of orders totaling $55 million, but doesn't give details.

Back in 1998 at work we bought a very powerful (at the time) graphics machine from them for $250,000. Four cpus running at 195 MHz, half a gigabyte of memory, graphics hardware out the wazoo, and memory bandwidth that's just now being matched in common PCs. Now that thing is pathetic, and your standard run of the mill PC can generally run circles around it, for about 1% of the cost. Gotta love how technology advances!
