Ever since I upgraded my router to a LinkSys Wireless-G Wi-Fi Broadband router, I have been unable to host. Does anyone out there know what I need to do to get it working again??

try typing 192.168.0.1 into your browser. A login window should come up. Type admin in the username and leave the password blank. There will be something in there about adding a port setting or something.
I figured it out on my own.. This is here to help anyone having problems hosting and has a LinkSys Wireless-G Broadband Router and are using Windows 2000/XP.

- Click Start, RUN and type in "cmd"

- From the DOS mode screen type in, "ipconfig"

- Write down the IP address that is shown

- Close the command window

- Open to your internet browser and type in "http://192.168.1.1" and click Go.

- Log into the router, default is blank for the id and admin is used for the password.

- If you have Firmware Version: 2.00 the following applies otherwise look for something simular under the Advanced Tab.

- Click on Applications & Gaming (fireware 2.0+)

- Under Application put "BYOND" and select a range of ports to open. BYOND by default normally uses 1000 - 4000 range. Protocol=Both

- In the last field, enter the IP address you wrote down earlier for your computer.

- Click on Enable and select Save Settings at the bottom of the screen.

This should fix your problems of not being able to host with a firewall blocking you from the router. If you have dynamic IP addresses then you will need to repeat this step each time you reboot your computer, but it should work for you afterwards. Hope this is of help to some of you having troubles out there.

Cheers!

wouldnt opening that many ports up open you up for a scam? I'm just wondering, because I want my hosting to work but I don't want to be hacked, either.

If you are worried you can select a range of 2 ports and specific these in the Hosting command of BYOND when you want to host a game. But if they are already in use you will not be able to host your game. Unless, you go back and change the range again.

You're welcome. If Dantom finds my information useful, they are more than welcome to post it anywhere on the site to make it easier to find.

Did you put the connection for not just TCP, etc., but "Both"? That was my problem.
In response to Kunark
Mine doesnt say that anywhere..

In your port forwarding section, it should give the fields for the port to port to be opened, what type of connection it should support (My default was TCP... This should be set to "Both") and the field you put your IP number in. Then after you do that, you hit "Next" or "Accept", then on the menu to the left click "save and restart" then save and restart.

ALl mine has is Start port, End port, and IP.

You may need to edit other fields on the other screens. What is your firmware version?

Might want to try updating your firmware from the router's webpage. Sounds like you have an older one.

I have no idea...How do I check?
