Hello Readers. If you don't follow the comments thread of Within BYOND, the last edition had something of a .GIF battle between Skirmish, Severed World, Wolf Pack Battalion, DragonVerse Online, and Epoch. Check them out because they all look great. When developers compete, players win!

BYOND

BYOND continues its growth with an improvement in map rendering. Lummox JR warned us that 508.1290 was coming, and it was bringing clear map rending and the fattening of the once thin Webclient. A previous developer post outlines some long time bugs and feature requests that he is aware of.

Lummox JR also did an ask me anything session for the Space Station 13 (The game, by-the-way, also got a shout-out at the E3 Convention.) Reddit community to help address the change in ownership, and to help outline his goals and identify concerns. Check it out.

BYOND Games

Overlooked in the last edition of Within BYOND, Silk Games has changed their view on publishing development updates that aren't quite ready for release. To accommodate this change, Silk Wizard has been publishing news updates for NEStalgia on a weekly basis. So far he has covered tentative plans for player ships, laying the framework for larger player capacities, and NEStalgia and the webclient. Weekly updates are typically posted on Thursdays, so keep an eye on their blog.

DanteVFenris, following his weekly update schedule has posted two logs detailing advancement and additions to Cursed Luck. First dungeon: Complete. First Boss: Complete. Party interface, clothing and dyes: Complete. Feature creep: Growing rapidly.

Mr. RJT has posted an early preview of The Dying Breed, a zombie survival game. The game is reported to be in a playable state, and a download may be published soon. Follow his Shoutbox for short and simple updates.

In the news this week for Sigrogana Legend 2 is the addition of one new skill for 17 different classes. A short description of each skill is included in the update, along with a series of adjustments and bug fixes.

Inutaishos has posted the update log for Azusa Generations v2.2, and headlines the addition of five new armors, each with a special ability that is bestowed upon the wearer. Full information about each of the special abilities are depicted in the log.

Ninja RPG Kage no Odori: Rise of the Tengu has new updates to present. A new fishing mini-game, 6 new ninpo, Fast traveling, weapons, enemies, and vanity items. Speaking of vanity items, AvidAnimeFan held a poll to determine which items would be most preferred, and it looks like he had all of them produced. Looks good!

Anthro Esoterica is a new role playing MUCK (Multi-User Character Kingdom) where players take on the role of a furry animal. The game is currently playable, with constant updates and plans to add more dynamic features, such as music sharing, building, custom icons, and dynamic content for multiple RP scenarios.

Evi of Au is back with a new game: Dead State is an isometric turn based zombie fighter. Currently the game is a demonstration where players can experiment and bug test with moving around the map and fighting zombies using the players in the group.

Kidpaddle45 has started a development log for Shinobi Online, a multiplayer ninja RPG. Work has been done on the basic systems, combat, interface, stats, and inventory management. Plenty of impressive screenshots are available to watch in the development logs.

There's so much going on. I really like how things are starting to pick up momentum. (:
Thanks for the mention! I'll definitely give you an update for next week!

Agreed.

On another note guess its about time to start removing the DBZ stuff from my game so I can get some mentions.
I forgot Higoten was posting this tonight and ended up making a new post of my own in Tutorials & Snippets. Undocumented: matrix()

Worth a look if you've ever wondered how the /matrix datum does its work under the hood, and how you can quickly define scaling or rotation matrices of your own.

Throw a look at Rotem12's lightning lib, too. It's really something.
Thanks for the mention @Higoten & Lummox
Thanks for mentioning Shinobi Online! :)
thanks for the mention
Wow @Rotem
I was gonna comment on your lib saying how amazing it is, but it looks like the comment section is locked. So wow!
Oh really? I don't really have a clue what I'm doing there, it's the first time I released a lib, sorry about that.

A narrative mini project I've been derping on for the last couple hours to take a break from Skirmish. Simple and short story. Single player only.
no one said you could take a break. get back to work. ON SKRIMMISH.

I already spent a couple hours balancing bandits and guilds today. That's ontop of mapping out the bulk of the Onaki province the last couple days. (: Skirmish is certainly inching along still so don't fret!

I find when im balancing for "hours" its more like me on youtube, playing games and in the midst of that at the end of the hour i quickly make the changes i know need to be revised
In response to DanteVFenris
Replace youtube with The Witcher and you're about right! (;

I did spend a few hours balancing bandits a bit as far as their accuracy with guns go and I made a little progress in getting them to cooperate in combat by flanking the target.
I'd like to have Bandits that can pull off effective ambushes and traps for players on their own. That's a far off goal at the moment, though.

EDIT: Finally got around to adding health orbs which are a common drop from enemies and sometimes dropped when simply landing an attack on an enemy. As you might guess health orbs restore 5hp and walking near them will cause them to start moving towards you to auto-collect(so long as you don't go too far away too quickly).
nice
I really wish people with such talent would make a simple sandbox like Z Universe. Minus the abuse, harassment, and overall bad atmosphere it would be a really good game. Someone should invest some time into something like that, because they're obviously doing something right if it's on top of Byonds page. You people make great games, but this game in particular is simple and ripped completely from legacy of goku, RPG maker and other Byond games.
""Minus the abuse, harassment, and overall bad atmosphere it would be a really good game."" You're missing the point.

EDIT
That people are aiming for the same style of game, but don't seem to be sticking to the direction of a game that is largely sandbox.
No. Sandbox games are popular on Byond. I was just saying that the formula was good so it should be used more often. There are plenty of games that are really good, but the ones like SS13, Sig2, Z Universe and Dungeon Master work really well. Not even sure why Z universe is at the top right now when other people could put some effort into replacing it with an intelligent largely sandbox game.

Maybe the art is ripped from DBz legacy of goku. But not the gameplay or design... It isn't a good game or a sandbox. It's a chat room where you can walk with DBz like characters. They aren't doing anything right, there name is just so similair to DBz that players go to it. That is all. My game will at least make reference to dbz if you want to check it out. Though maybe not. Maybe check it out once I have everything together
