Last night around 11:00 PM EST, me and two of my friends went and viewed this movie, excited because the previews looked great... well what can I say about this movie that hasn't been said about Monica Lewinsky? I thought it sucked horribly...
I thought this movie was way too morbid from start to finish, and I guess that was alright because it was supposed to show the other side of spiderman... at least that's what I excused it as. The fight scenes were great but there weren't enough, the story was much weaker then the first, and by the end of the movie everybody and their cousin knew spiderman's secret identity.
Another problem I had was spiderman's powers... Not only did he have new "superman" powers like breaking train tracks by sticking his foot down, while trying to stop a train going 100 MPh, but they found a way to tie his powers in with his emotions... if at one point he was feeling like he's given up, so would his powers.
And last, I never realize until this movie, how ugly Toby McGwire really is...

Not if you were expecting it, like me. They screwed up the first movie, and as sequals go, I didn't see it getting better. They should have stayed truer to the story of the comics, or at least the old cartoon.

Eh, I never really read the comic. I actually liked the sequal.

I thought it sucked horribly... I disagree, i'll explain below. I thought this movie was way too morbid from start to finish, and I guess that was alright because it was supposed to show the other side of spiderman... at least that's what I excused it as. The fight scenes were great but there weren't enough, True. The fight scenes were great, but there weren't enough. I didn't really mind, though. the story was much weaker then the first, and by the end of the movie everybody and their cousin knew spiderman's secret identity. Not true. Only the people on the train (and MJ, and Harry) knew. And they promised they wouldn't say anything, AND since it's NYC, people don't know who he is, just what he looks like. Another problem I had was spiderman's powers... Not only did he have new "superman" powers like breaking train tracks by sticking his foot down, while trying to stop a train going 100 MPh, Well, spiders have a huge amount of strength comapred to their size, and they did someone show that in the first movie (Could you climb a wall with just your fingertips and toes?). He didn't even come close to stopping the train, just broke up the boards with his foot. but they found a way to tie his powers in with his emotions... if at one point he was feeling like he's given up, so would his powers. I didn't get this, so I do agree with you here. Perhaps it could've been the spider's bite was wearing off, but then he got the powers back so that theory's out the window. And last, I never realize until this movie, how ugly Toby McGwire really is... Wasn't really looking at him :-P |

by the end of the movie everybody and their cousin knew spiderman's secret identity. Four people knew (including Peter Parker and Doc Ock). Maybe someone else knew too, but that's not quite "everybody and their cousin". breaking train tracks by sticking his foot down, while trying to stop a train going 100 MPh If he could fall from a building and live then his body is apparently quite strong. The feat was not that the train tracks broke, but that his leg didn't break. The comics portray Doc Ock as a mad scientist, but in the movie they play it off as the tentacles taking control of him. So, he's not the villian, the thentacles are, and that kind of bothered me. However, he did have the power in him to overcome the tentacles, but he didn't until the end, so it makes him seem a little evil. Still, its a movie, so I'll forive it from straying from the comic. Some of the lines were a little lame, but the director has a sense of humor. He probably realized how corny some lines were, but then he realized what movie it was. |
I thought the movie was great, and the story wasn't as in depth as the first because the first was used fer introducing the characters. The second movie was based around the life of Peter Parker not Spiderman, and as in one of the comics "Spiderman No More" it followed the hardships of his life. It was like he was eating a cat dung sandwich everyday.
There weren't a lot of fight scenes but the overall action in those fight scenes was great. Also I believe his powers were there all the time, he just wasn't (his mind wasn't focused on being Spiderman, so he had no will to continue). Though the funniest part was the guy getting jumped in the ally. :P |
I loved Spiderman 2. Never trust Neohaxor, he haxors your mind.
Yeah, there weren't many fight scenees, but I loved em. And last, I never realize until this movie, how ugly Toby McGwire really is... His name is Tobey Maguire. :P And he was sort of made to be ugly. For example, (in the first Spiderman) he had to put on weight in order to play the part good. And in Seabiscuit, he had to go and LOSE all that weight again. I've never seen Seabiscuit, just heard about it. What's it like? Anyone know? |
Well, you like many others failed to realize that
1) He is a superhero in New York, nobody in that train would have been able to pick him out in a crowd after that. AND 2) The subconscious mind does have effects such as that, bodily functions suddenly becoming uncontrollable, muscle spasms, nervous twitches and the like. This movie was merely paving the way for Spider-man 3, which I hear will have Hob-Goblin AND Venom in it. If you were to have played the Spider-Man 2 video game you would realize that they did intend for there to be more fight scenes at the expense of a more dramatic movie. there were supposed to be at least some appearance of the Rhino and even Mysterio. But hey. play the game yourself and see. |

Green Goblin again, maybe, but not Hobgoblin. Venom is iffy. They're almost certainly going to go with the animated series introduction of Venom, but that would require almost an entire movie just to set up the character (Spidey merges with the Symbiote, he gets the black suit, kicks ass, almost kills Harry because of it, rejects the suit, someone else gets it). Also, villains in the game have nothing to do with villains in the movie. |

What I wonder is, if he had the abilities to stop the train and break the tracks, how the hell Doc Oc survived any more than one of spiderman's attacks... Doc Oc was just merely a human with tentacles grafted onto his back and a minor case of insanity because of the nano-machines, I was waiting for his head to explode with one of those punches or something...
I guess the movie wasn't entirely bad, I just wrote this topic after seeing it because I had my hopes up (maybe too high because of the first one) but that's the case with many sequals. The fact that Mary Jane knew at the end was what really killed it for me, and someone on that train had to have one of those Ipod mini cameras or something, because you can't go anywhere these days without seeing someone with one (And the entire train knew who he was, Harry, Oc, and Mary Jane). I guess the powers explanation Dareb gave makes some sense... And I hope that if they do make another movie, it's much better and less morbid. I wonder if they're ever even going to introduce the idea of the Symbiotes, or the Human Spider, or anything of that nature... My guess is that it'll most likely focus around the Hobgoblin and maybe throw in the Lizard Man or something (And maybe that'd introduce the human spider)... But I really would like to see a Venom movie, or a Symbiote Spider one. This movie just didn't hit anything with me, it bored me on many occasions and was way too sad for my tastes (Worse than one of my girlfriend's lifetime movies) but here's hopes for the future. ~Ken~ |

Being able to not get torn in half is a lot different from being able to make someone's head explode with a single punch.

Being able to extend your leg through tracks, while traveling 100MPH with the momentum of a large train behind you, and keeping your legs extended is pretty close to being able to hit with the force of something very mighty (Especially when he attacked him with a flurry)... And to hold on to those webs with his arms would have to show that his strength isn't only lower-body... Not to mention, I do believe that spiderman kicked Oc on two or three occasions.

If you're going to start picking apart the inconsistencies, then why not start picking apart how the "fusion" generator worked. Fusion power does not create a mini-star.

I'm no scientist or anything close, so as far as I know it looked good to me. I was just wondering about the spider strength he had, and why Oc had not a bruise... let alone a shattered skull (Especially when he friggen yanks huge cords apart and throws walls pretty far)... Oh well it's fictional *shrug*
But now that Mary Jane and Spiderman are gonna be together, and she knows his secret... Does this mean that the next movie (if there is one) might involve the Scarlet Spider? ~Ken~ |

Well, if the movie went by the comic...Spiderman *SHOULD* be able to lift around 10 tons.

Meh movies just do this for the sake of plot. In The Matrix, Neo at his peak never moved as quickly as an agent(when he wasn't flying atleast). If you watch an agent when they are getting shot at they don't just barely move into a position to avoid the bullets like Neo did they moved their entire upper body out of the way of each and every bullet. If they would have applied this same concept to avoiding melee blows Neo would never be able to touch them. If they'd apply this concept to attacking Neo they'd knock a few holes into him before he'd have the chance to realize what happened. Neo never really got too much more powerful his enemies just got stupid in his presence :P. |

Haven't seen it yet (which does raise the question of what I'm doing reading a thread marked spoilers--but then, I don't intend to really take the movie all that seriously), but this seems to have a pretty simple explanation: Spiderman is a good guy, so of course he's pulling his punches. Just because he's strong enough to lift several tons doesn't mean that he's incapable of lifting feathers; similarly, being able to punch through concrete as if it were paper doesn't stop you from using less force. I mean, I'm not a huge comic buff but from what I know of Spiderman he's not the sort of fighter to go straight for the killing blow, and would probably be more likely to err on the side of using too little force than using too much. |

I read a Spider-Man 2 thread somewhere else. And, how people are saying the third will not include Venom or anything, because Sam Reini (The director) is into like drama and stuff like that...Spider-Man 3 is Reini's last 'Spidey' flick though, so let's see who'll direct 4-6.
As far as Spider-Man 2 goes, it was not a great movie, but I think it's one of the better comic film movies. I was shocked that 'MJ' learned about his secret so soon, compared to the comics. 3 can't only be Green Goblin. What I think it will have both Green and Hob. An hour each, probably. Like after Spider-Man defeats Harry, he'll go to the mental hospital, where his doctor will steal the Green Goblin technology and become Hob-Goblin, and start throwing some pumpkins, right? |
