Can someone explain the Mind probe? Its bugging me!

Read Leftley's post about it, that explains it the best...
But just for good measure, here's how it works again: The answers they have listed are the most commonly thought of answers... Ever watch Family Feud? You know, where they ask 100 people some questons, and then they list the top answers? Consider each of those things (7,carrot, red, and hammer) to be the number one answer in each of those categories... Basically, if you asked 100 people to name a color and a tool, the vast majority of them will say "red and hammer"... Sure, some people won't, but the probability is very high that the average person will... So for 80/100 people (not the real ratio, obviously, but you get the point), the mind probe will be correct... It's all a matter of "predicting" based on statistics... |

7, carrot, red, and hammer... Just like that... I believe the reason your mind locked onto seven is you didn't take time to fully comprehend the line. The line said: Fast! Think of a number between 12 and 5. Since you had previously been doing simplistic math problems, and because twelve is greater than five, you unknowingly subtracted. 12-5=7. At least that's what I did. :-/ |

Every single one of those was dead-on for my initial thoughts... Yep, me too. Pretty nifty. |
Cool, eh? :) Not really you can only concentrate on one thing at a time. Try doing any unique things simulatniously with two different limbs like moving each individual hand at different frequencies up and down or making a square with one hand in the air and a circle with the other. Ok, now do the Mind Probe... wow... X_x As Foomer already noted only a small set of those numbers are possible answers all of which have the exact same symbol. Pick four or five different numbers and look at the result picture for each of them. You'll notice they are all the same so it's pretty easy for the program to display the image you located. [Edit] Also look at where all the possible answers are. The pattern makes sense if you think about it. Subtracting the first digit leaves you with a multiple of ten regardless of what number you picked so you are left with one of the possible numbers regardless what you picked 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 subtract the first digit and you are left with only nine possibilities 9 18 27 36 45 54 63 72 81 If you look at those numbers you'll notice all their pictures are the same. [Edit2] Heh most the tricks on that site are pretty stupid :P. Do the card one. It does remove the card you thought of along with all the other ones shown to you. |

Subtracting the <s>first</s> second digit leaves you with a multiple of ten... I count starting at the least significant bit! No stinkin' big endian for me. |

Blue and red are probably the most common responses, I'm guessing. I thought of blue because its my favorite color, not because its the first thing that comes to mind. |

I'm kind of glad that at least in mundane aspects such as this, I think the same as the average joe (instead of coming up with some oddball answers, like "eggplant"...lol) Hey, I take pride in my weirdness. |

[Edit2] The previous iterations of that "magic trick" that I've seen always used face cards instead, but the seemingly unrelated spinning-number-counter animation it shows on the "processing" screen is a nice touch. |

Fine then. Whoops :P. I guess consistency was the issue not the order of counting. |

Spuzzum's new linguistic doomsday machine? =P The U.S. is the only country in the world that spells in American. English-speaking countries tend to use spelling similar to British spelling, rather than spelling similar to American spelling. |

And darn proud of it!
What purpose does that U even serve? Although, over here, the word "color", for instance, is usually pronounced as "culler"... So even our chosen spelling is slightly incorrect phonetically...but at least it's still close... But "colour"? Co-lure? Of course, we still haven't finished up our clean-up job... We still have plenty of silent E's, and whatnot to cut out... But at least we're making progress, while the rest of the "English" speaking world is sitting idle, still using their frivolous extra letters...lol |
