Who here knows of the concept of "freedom of speech"? It's pretty well-known in America, at least. And yet, even though every American citizen has the freedom of speech, it doesn't mean that they are entitled to say anything they want whenever they want. Why do you think that is? Simply put, it's not always appropriate.
The problem here very similarly echoes the contradictory matter of open-minded people being angry at others for being close-minded. If a person was truly open-minded, then that person should be open-minded towards closed-mindedness. |
Grenseal, pop quiz to prove your supposed grazelands. How do you pronounce Baltimore?!?
Balmer, hon. (Don't take that last part to mean anything, its a local thing) The point he was trying to make was "people should be allowed to speak their minds." He was conveying that point by using sarcasm. But Worldweaver rightly called him on that being a contradiction since everyone else is merely speaking their minds as well. You got the first two sentences right but then completely missed the mark on the third. Let me explain why: Also, Grenseal was using the sarcasm to prove his point. It's obviously part of the arguement, and, like any ignorant statement in a arguement, should be picked apart and then tossed out. By being sarcastic in what I said I was really saying that people should be allowed to speak their minds. Please remember that sarcastic comments are not meant to be taken literally. Therefore my statement in no way contradicts itself nor does it contradict my true meaning that people should be allowed to speak their minds. Basically I could've just came right out and said "People should be able to speak their minds", but rather I used a more smart ass way of saying it via sarcasm. So in summary the way I say something doesn't really matter, its the true meaing behind what I' saying, and in this case there is no contradiction. |

You basically told us off for disagreeing with Acebloke's Anti-Americanism. By telling us not to tell him off, You were denying our right to free speech. Besides the fact that you reworded your whole horrible arguement, and stuck in things you never said. |

I didn't tell you off for disagreeing with Ace, by all means feel free to disagree with him. I was telling that one guy off for saying Ace should stick to podcasting rather than posting his political views. See where this is going??? I then made my post stating that Ace should be allowed to say what he wants, i.e. people should be allowed to speak their minds, and that includes you as well. Besides the fact that you reworded your whole horrible arguement, and stuck in things you never said. Quite an imagination you've got there. |
I was telling that one guy off for saying Ace should stick to podcasting rather than posting his political views.
But isn't that one guy allowed to express that he feels that Acebloke should do as such? Don't you see? You can't win an argument if you're fighting for everyone to be able to say whatever they want, without being a hypocrit. |

Acebloke, I love reading your site, you need to post more often. I like what you say, its entertaining (in a good way). Americans cant detect Sarcasm? British do w/e the hell you said? Psh, we all have problems, deal with them. Freedom of Speech? NO SUCH THING! I cant openly threaten the president can I? Amendments mean nothing. And I prenounce Baltimore Ball-Tee-More :P.
I too notice Aceblokes cruel intentions on Americans :/. Racism, Prejudice, Steriotypcal, w/e you want to call it, it is still wrong. And I love Acebloke's political veiws, I personally think they are great :D. By the way Ace, your goverment is really, no better then ours, all goverments are corrupted, just in different ways. |
Freedom of speech does exist... You can't openly threaten the president because you can't openly threaten anybody...
Freedom to express one's opinion doesn't mean the freedom to cause harm to others... And threatening to cause harm to others is a HUGE sign that you intended to do so... Therefore, you are punished for such things... |
No, not in the least...
You were saying that freedom of speech doesn't exist because you can't threaten the president... I'm telling you that you're wrong, because threatening the president isn't a matter of free speech... It is a matter of potential harm to another person... You're not covered under free speech when what you're saying is evidence that you intend to hurt someone... |
I was using threatening the president as an example. And it DOES violate free speech. Its called slander.
|
I was using threatening the president as an example. And it DOES violate free speech. Its called slander. There is a huge difference between threatening a person and slander. An example of slander would be: "My opponent's record shows him to be a liar, cheat and a criminal who does not deserve to win this election". Threatening a person is just that, a threat: "I'm going to break your nose" or "If you don't shut up I'm going to kill you". If someone were to credible the threat to be real enough, it could be considered premeditated murder. |
But isn't that one guy allowed to express that he feels that Acebloke should do as such? Don't you see? You can't win an argument if you're fighting for everyone to be able to say whatever they want, without being a hypocrit.
I do see, all too clearly. I never said that guy shouldn't be able to criticize Ace. All I said was that he shouldn't be telling ace to stop posting his political views. If you go back and look at what he said you'll see what I mean. |
And what I'm saying is that if you truly believe that everyone should be able to say whatever they wanted, then that means you believe that one should be able to say that one doesn't think that someone else should say what they have said. Now, if you don't believe that everyone has the right to say whatever they want, then by all means, you can say that he shouldn't have said what he said, but it kind of kills your argument.
|
You obviously didn't understand my intentions. I see what you are saying, but you are incorrectly applying that logic.
When I responded to that one guy my intentions were thus, 1.) Make fun of him 2.) Make a point that people should be able to speak their minds. I NEVER said that he shouldn't be able to post his objections, or that he shouldn't have posted his post. While we're at this point lets make a distinction. 1.) I made that post because I disagreed with his opinion. 2.) I didn't make that post calling for it's removal or calling for him to cease posting similar messages. I was basically mocking him through sarcasm whilst at the same time using it to make a point. |
Rebel, rebel and yell
'Cause our people still dwell in hell Locked in a cell Yes, the structure's a cell Mad is the story I tell How long can we wait? Come on, seein' what's at stake Action for reaction If your mind's in a somewhat complacent state Get a check up This is a stick up Our freedom or your life Lord, I wish I could be peaceful But there can be no sequel Now freedom must be fundamental In Johannesburg or South Central On the mic, 'cause someone should tell 'em To kick in the township rebellion Yeah, what about that, sucker? Yeah, so you thought you could get with the hardlines That fill your mind Thoughts, battles fought And lessons taught Yes I'll display the fitness And flip like a gymnast Raise my fist and resist Asleep, though we stand in the midst Of a war Gotta get mine Gotta get more Keepin' the mic warm against the norm 'Cause what does it offer me? I think often it's nothin' but a coffin Gotta get wreck Till our necks never swing on a rope From here to the cape of no hope Now freedom must be fundamental In Johannesburg or South Central On the mic, 'cause someone should tell 'em To kick in the township rebellion Why stand on a silent platform? Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Why stand on a silent platform? Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm What's it gonna take? Euuurrrggghhhhh! Shackle their minds when they're bent on the cross When ignorance reigns, life is lost Shackle their minds when they're left on the cross When ignorance reigns, life is lost Shackled our minds when we're bent on the cross When ignorance reigns, life is lost Shackled our minds when we're left on the cross When ignorance reigns, life is lost, lost, lost! Shackle your minds and you're left on the cross! When ignorance reigns, life is lost! Just shackle your minds when you're bent on the cross! When ignorance reigns, life is lost, lost! Why stand on a silent platform? Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm Fight the war, fuck the norm |
He called you a dumbass After. Besides, calling some one a dumbass is way less insulting than calling them a cock-sucking moron.
