Hey, is anyone else having problems with AIM? I just got on today and my whole friend's list was gone, everyone appears offline 24/7(Even though that is IMPOSSIBLE), and it's just not seeming right.
(When I said everyone, I meant those that I added back to my friend's list, just for..uh..clarification)

Well, I found out one of my friend's just wasn't getting on. I had two friends, both were the same people. I thought buddy lists were stored in a central server, though? :P
|
Here's to solve your problem: Grab your friends, switch to MSN Messenger :P
I haven't had problems with AIM, but man, some of my friends just wont switch, and I really don't want to support anything that is AOL. |

And MSN is better? I can't say I like AOL, or even think it should exist on this planet. However, AIM is a nice peice of chatting software. It does the job in a clean cut sort of a way. MSN likes to bloat every message box by adding useless stuff onto it. You could switch to a IM program that is not backed by a major company, like GAIM/XFire(a IM program with its own servers)/Trillian/ICQ(once again, its own servers) or one of the seven million others. Just because three IM services are the most known, it doesnt mean they are the best, or the only option like people seem to think.

Emotions, Font, Backgrounds(Small Tabs) and Your display pic which you can remove and their display which you can remove. Some tabs up the top which you can remove also by skinning. Doesnt seem that cluttered up. Anyway more people use msn, or everyone i know does. |

AIM HAS TALKING ADS NOW!
'nuff said. :P I am sitting here watching a movie, then suddenly hear voices comming from nowhere on my computer, only to realize that AIM is playing a TALKING ad. Ung. I don't CARE ABOUT THAT RETARDED MOVIE, THUNDERBIRDS! The only real advantage AIM has over MSN messenger, is the direct connect, and it allows you to animate your display icon. Other than that, AIM just sucks. |

Those ads only show if you have the window open. They won't come up if it's zipped down to the icon tray.

True, but I don't always minimize or "X" it when I'm browsing the web and such. Shouldn't need to be a requirement for it not to annoy you.

Uh... Have you used AIM? They let you directly connect with other people.

"According to a story on eWeek, AOL has mistakenly suspended a very large number of AOL Instant Messenger (one of the most widely used IM programs) accounts, by mistake. I don't know about you guys, but this happened to me and a large percentage of friends and coworkers. AOL says that a fix should be ready by Monday."

I don't CARE ABOUT THAT RETARDED MOVIE, THUNDERBIRDS! Look, mum, no ads! =) I find IM programs waaaay too distracting usually, but when I do use IM I use Gaim. No ads, plus it supports almost every protocol on the planet. I agree with you about talking ads, they're HORRIBLE. They always come on just when you're watching a movie, or really getting into the music you're playing, or the volume on your speakers is turned up really loudly so they assault your ears. GAAAAAH EVILNESS. |
