Note that said games are on the PC. One can not compare the graphics of a PC game with those of a console. Different platforms==different capabilities. And to be honest, I thought Halo2 on XBox STILL looked better than Doom 3.

Could that be because Doom 3's levels are so industrial/bloody? They're not always very visually appealing, but technically they're (literally!) bloody fantastic.

I was playing Doom 3 today, and noticed that I could see heat distortion rising from an open flame that was projecting out into a corridor. I don't know if it's been done before or not, but I was impressed nevertheless. These guys pay attention to detail! Not to mention the fact that shooting a zombie with a shotgun will rip off its skin, exposing its insides in exactly the places where the bullets hit... and limbs get blown off in the same fashion...

...anyway, my point is, Doom 3 has an amazing graphics engine. I've heard Halo 2's graphics are good, but I doubt that they're THAT good.

I haven't played Halo 2 myself (not owning an Xbox will do that), so I don't know anything about its visuals firsthand; I'm just curious.

Timesplitters 2, and Metroid Prime (1 + 2) all have done heat distortion very well in the past.

And it's been done before that. It's an old trick. Remember how old TS2 is (now).

Well Ter13, lets look back on what I said.

Halo's graphics are decent enough for a console, but they have in no way by far beaten other FPS games on the market. Go try some Half-Life 2 or Doom 3, both of those games have Halo 2 beat on graphics.

Hmm, looks like through reading comprehension we can gather that I stated Halo 2 is ok in the visual department for graphics, but it is nothing special when compared to the rest of the market. Meaning that I was making the comparison as a whole, which I can do that and I just did. To be honest, statistically speaking, Doom 3 has Halo 2 beat in the graphics department. I can clearly see the difference when looking at Doom 3, perhaps you have only seen it on low settings?

and what rules are those?

Ah, okay. I hadn't seen it done in a game I'd played before, that's all.

None of those games are out for PC, right? Which would explain why I haven't played them.

Regardless, Doom 3's graphics engine rules even on my slightly outdated machine. I imagine it must look even more spectacular if you turn all the settings up.

Remember how old TS2 is (now).

Two years and two months since release, according to GamerCentric.com. Not THAT old. =)
