In high school, I paid attention but didn't do homework or read notes. Yet I still got 90%+ test scores regularly.
When I went to college (I mean Years 11 and 12, not university), my grades dropped fairly dramatically; from straight 'A's to straight 'C's. Now I actually have to make an effort; after taking notes and actually studying for tests, I've gone up a grade; with effort, I get 'B's. And you know what? It's actually more worthwhile than getting straight 'A's. My grades aren't as good as they used to be, but now I actually feel like I'm earning them. It's much more satisfying. What's the moral of the story? Put in some effort! It's worth it, and it'll prepare you for college... or university... or whatever. (The other moral of the story is that Years 9 and 10 should be progressively harder, to ease you into Years 11 and 12... but that's not something that's easily changed by students.) |
